Flaming Lips has been pushing the envelope with their lush, multi-layered, psychedelic rock arrangements since their inception in 1983. To put it tamely, the group's live shows are a spectacle. A typical performance may include balloons, confetti, puppets, giant hands and lead guitarist Wayne Coyne surfing the crowd in a man-sized plastic bubble. Performing with Flaming Lips in Wallingford will be special guest Spiritualized.
Stratford Festival's Des McAnuff Invested into Order of Canada

Des McAnuff was invested into the Order of Canada at a ceremony presided over by the Governor General in Ottawa this morning. The Stratford Festival extends heartiest congratulations to Mr. McAnuff, who was Artistic Director from 2008 through 2012, and is currently directing Tommy, a musical based on the album by The Who, which he helped composer-lyricist Pete Townshend create.

THE TERROR by THE FLAMING LIPS has a new U.S. release date of April 16th (U.K release date remains April 1). As previously mentioned The Terror is THE LIPS' thirteenth studio album and was produced by long-time collaborator Dave Fridmann and THE FLAMING LIPS at Tarbox Road Studios. Multi- instrumentalist Steven Drozd considers the music they've created on this album as; 'a mood that might possibly suggest elements of Popol Vuh, Silver Apples, and Suicide.'

Records are pleased to announce the long-awaited release of The Terror, their thirteenth studio album, on April 2nd in the U.S., andApril 1stthrough Bella Union in Europe. The album was produced by the band's long-time collaborator Dave Fridmann and THE FLAMING LIPS at Tarbox Road Studios. It is comprised of nine original compositions that reflect a darker-hued spectrum than previous works, along with a more inward-looking lyrical perspective than one might expect - but then again, maybe not. It's up to you, the listener, to decide what it means to you.

The world premiere musical Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots just finished its West Coast run at La Jolla Playhouse, directed by Des McAnuff, on December 16. According to the North County Times, when the McAnuff spoke after the final curtain about the musical's future, he discussed the possibility of taking it to Broadway.

La Jolla Playhouse previously announced its final production of the 2012/2013 season: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, a world-premiere musical written and directed by Playhouse Director Emeritus Des McAnuff (Jesus Christ Superstar, Jersey Boys), with music and lyrics by The Flaming Lips. According to the Globe and Mail, the musical will be lead by Paul Nolan, who previously played the title role in McAnuff's recent Broadway revival of Jesus Christ Superstar. The show will run in November/December 2012 (dates TBA) in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.
