An epidemic of senseless gun violence and police brutality is sweeping through the United States. Trayvon Martin and Freddie Grey are two of the more famous examples of this. Award winning actress, choreographer, and writer Debbie Allen takes a no holds barred look at this all too hot topic in her theatrical/dance/ multimedia extravaganza Freeze Frame...Stop the Madness. I always knew that Debbie Allen was a force of nature as an actress in any show she's in and this show is no exception. She plays a few roles, but is also the director, choreographer, and writer. This is one of the first times I have actually seen that working scenario prove successful as one person usually can't do it all.

One of the neat things about writing a column for Broadway World is that you get a chance to interview some folks whose work you've been enjoying and admiring for many years. One of today's subjects first came on my radar way back in 1980 with the Broadway revival of West Side Story. Debbie Allen played Anita in that production and her Her performance deservedly garnered her a Tony Award nomination and a Drama Desk Award. A few years later she wowed me again playing the lead role in Sweet Charity, which resulted in yet another Tony Award nomination.

This Halloween, Monday October 31st, 42 Seven Productions in conjunction with IndieFork, and W NY Times Square bring a new Halloween experience to life. FRIGHT NIGHT is a Halloween experience that will bring you thrilling Halloween tunes, some Rocky Horror classics, complete with a costume contest, and some trick or treat trivia, everything you need for a Broadway Halloween. Ben Cameron from the Broadway smash Wicked, and host of the long running hit 'Broadway Sessions,' will emcee the experience. The show will feature some of Broadway's best including Betsy Struxness (Hamilton), Colin Cunliffe (Pippin), Matt DeAngelis (Once), Eric LaJuan Summers (Motown), Chadae Nichol McAlister (Motown), David Larsen (The Book of Mormon), Mary Page Nance (Finding Neverland), Megan Lewis (If/Then), recording artist Molly Roth, and Nik Walker (Hamilton). August Wilson's hard-hitting 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom' opened September 11 and continues through October 16, 2016, at the Center Theatre Group/ Mark Taper Forum. On July 10, Broadway Beyond Productions, the producers who brought you BROADWAY AT THE W, will debut a new series in New York at the W in Times Square.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in association with The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, presents the East Coast premiere of Debbie Allen's Freeze Frame in the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater in five shows, October 27-30, 2016.

On June 24, musical theater revue show BROADWAY AT THE W triumphantly returns to The Loft stage at W Hollywood. The 2015 debut BROADWAY AT THE W show was a sold-out success with a line of ticket holders stretching down Hollywood Blvd.

After several sold out performances at New York City's Canal Room, Daniel J. Watts (After Midnight, Memphis) is finally bringing his spoken word based contemporary revue-style show to North Hollywood's Federal Bar on Monday, June 1st. Watts commented, 'I'm excited to finally let LA know what they've been missing.' The project is co-produced by WattsWords Productions and 515 Incorporated, the production company of Vivian Nixon (Smash, Women on the Verge). The Jam: Spoken Word Preserves is an innovative spoken word concert led by Daniel J. Watts.

Signature Theatre has announced the continuation of the "World of the Play" series with a panel of experts discussing Women Prisoners and America's Incarceration Crisis. This event is presented in conjunction with the U.S. Premiere of AND I AND SILENCE by Naomi Wallace, directed by Caitlin McLeod, and will take place on Saturday, September 13 at 4:15 p.m. in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). The event is free and open to the general public (no reservations required).

In his seventh Bway show in his eight years in NY, Daniel wowed audiences with his 'After Midnight' tap dancing.

Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) announced today that it will honor dancer, choreographer, actress, producer, director and author Debbie Allen as Woman of the Year for the 31st Annual Black & White Ball. The recipient of numerous awards, including a Tony Award, Golden Globe and three Emmy Awards among others, Allen's many contributions to the performing arts and entertainment industry will be celebrated on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at ARIA Resort & Casino, CityCenter.
