Crowded Outlet, a new not-for-profit development and producing organization committed to harnessing the creative powers of a variety of artistic voices and theatrical visions, launches in January 2016 with the first event in a planned monthly developmental series called Surge, offering theatre artists a chance to test their new ideas and dawning projects. A full production is also on the horizon, for Spring 2016.

Director Woody Allen has found a replacement for Bruce Willis in his upcoming ensemble film. The Hollywood Reporter writes that Steve Carell will fill the MISERY actor's shoes, after Willis was forced to drop out of the movie due to his jam-packed Broadway schedule.

Veteran Stage Actor Evan Thompson Dies at 83

Evan Thompson, a New York City-based theatre actor whose long and eclectic career included work in cabaret, children's shows, summer stock, regional theatre, and on and off Broadway, died Feb. 28, 2015, in Brooklyn, NY, at the Hopkins Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare following a long respiratory illness. He was 83 years old.

ABUNDANCE, the 1990 play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley (Crimes of the Heart), is an epic tale of friendship set against the backdrop of the sweeping American West. Abundance is directed by TACT Co-Artistic Director Jenn Thompson, who directed last season's production of William Inge's Natural Affection. Performances began at Theatre Row's Beckett Theatre (410 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Avenues) on February 17, and the production opened last weekend on March 1. The Night Alive, written by Conor McPherson, recently took home the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award (NYDCC) for Best Play of the 2012-2013 season. All the Way, written by Robert Schenkkan received the award for Best American Play. A Fun Home received the award for Best Musical. The awards were presented at a cocktail reception on Friday, May 16, at 54 Below.

The cast of Kansas City Repertory Theatre's new Nick Blaemire musical A Little More Alive is throwing a sold out secret acoustic show on Stage 3 of Rockwood Music Hall, 185 Orchard St., New York, NY, tonight, March 22, at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The cast leaves on March 25 for rehearsals for the world premiere of A Little More Alive which runs April 11-May 11 at Kansas City Rep.
