Theatre Aspen School to Present XANADU, JR

Theatre Aspen School today announced that the company for the Spring Youth Production of the musical comedy Xanadu, Jr. includes technical students from the recently formed Theatre Aspen School Tech Company. These students learn theatrical design and stagecraft from industry experts and gain practical experience working backstage. Tickets are on sale now for the run which includes four performances at the Wheeler Opera House, from April 14th through 16th.

American Theater Company Announces Cast of XANADU

American Theater Company (ATC), 1909 W. Byron Street, announces casting for the musical comedy Xanadu, the final production of its Legacy Season. Presented as a tribute to ATC's late Artistic Director PJ Paparelli-a not-so-secret fan of this camp classic-Xanadu is directed by Lili-Anne Brown and runs at ATC May 27-July 17, 2016 (press opening Wednesday, June 8). The production has music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar and a book by Douglas Carter Beane, based on the 1980 Universal Pictures film of the same title.

XANADU Begins Tonight at CT Repertory Theatre

Connecticut Repertory Theatre completes its 2015 Nutmeg Summer Series with the musical comedy Xanadu. Directed by CRT's Artistic Director, Vincent J. Cardinal and choreographed by Cassie Abate, Xanadu tells the story of a muse named Clio who travels to 1980's Venice Beach, California disguised as a mortal to inspire chalk artist and beach boy Sonny Malone. Clio faces the jealousy of her two sisters, Melpomene and Calliope, the wrath of her father Zeus, and the struggles of fitting in as a mortal as she and Danny fight for their dream to open a roller disco with awesome mirror balls. Amandina Altomare stars in the lead role of Clio/Kira. Altomare was previously seen on the CRT stage as Lousie in Gypsy, Judy in A Chorus Line, and earlier this summer in LES MISERABLES: A Musical Celebration directed by Terrence Mann. Performances of Xanadu begin on July 9, 2015 and run through July 19, 2015 at Connecticut Repertory Theatre's Harriet S. Jorgensen Theatre. Tickets are on sale now at crt.uconn.edu or 860-486-2113.

Connecticut Repertory Theatre has announced the complete cast for Xanadu, the third and final production of the 2015 Nutmeg Summer Series. Directed by CRT's Artistic Director, Vincent J. Cardinal, Xanadu will feature Amandina Altomare in the lead role of Clio/Kira. Altomare was previously seen on the CRT stage as Lousie in Gypsy, Judy in A Chorus Line, and Philia in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. She is a proud member of the USO Show Troupe which provides entertainment for veterans and active military all over the world. Seacoast Repertory Theatre and Let's “B” Reel have announced that their award winning Red Light series will be presenting the cult musical classic, XANADU tonight, April 22nd, 2015. In addition to the screening, Seacoast Roller Derby and Lady Luck Burlesque will be on hand for an extra special pre-show performance, as well as original animation cells from the film will be on display in the Rep's Lobby.

The 1980 film Xanadu is known for being a notoriously bad movie. In 2007 it was adapted into a stage musical by Douglas Carter Beane, featuring songs from the film written by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar. This summer, Stages Repertory Theatre is presenting the candy-coated confection as their giddy summer musical. The end product couldn't be more fun, frivolous, and everything audiences would want from the campy, fun show.
