The New York Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, has announced the nominees for the 2023 Bessie Awards. This year's Bessie Awards ceremony will be held on Friday, August 4, at 7:30pm, at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park as part of Lincoln Center's Summer for the City. The event is free and open to the public.

New York Live Arts (Live Arts) presents the New York premiere of Touch of RED, a new work by the award-winning movement artist Shamel Pitts, co-created and performed by his Brooklyn-based arts collective TRIBE. Drawing inspiration from two distinct arts requiring rapid-fire footwork – boxing and the African-American jazz dance style Lindy Hop – this ten-round duet is performed by Pitts and Tushrik Fredericks who debuted with the Afrofuturistic collective in the critically-acclaimed 2022 show BLACK HOLE: Trilogy and Triathlon.

TRIBE: Solace of RED - Vol. II is the culmination of a performance residency initiated by TRIBE's Artistic Director Shamel Pitts that explores the intimate multidisciplinary work of five artists from TRIBE's arts collective using the languages of dance, poetry, spoken word, visual art, music, and movement intertwined into one live experience.
