This fall Jo Kreiter's Flyaway Productions unveils the third and final installment in its trilogy about urban poverty that began in 2012 with the award-winning Niagara Falling. Titled Needles to Thread: Dancing Along These Lines in Continuum Alley, Kreiter's newest site-specific aerial dance takes on the issue of wage security for women through the story of San Francisco's garment workers past and present.

Recipient of this year's Goldie Award for dance from theSan Francisco Bay Guardian, RAWdance is proud to announce the program for its 10th anniversary summer season, July 25 - 27 at Z Space. The event features two world premieres including Turing's Apple, set to a commissioned score by Voices of Light composer Richard Einhorn. Also on the program is the world premiere of Burn In, and works by guest artists Gretchen Garnett & Dancers and Tanya Bello's Project B.

In an exploration of the meanings inherent in the idea of 'going up,' especially as seen through a feminist lens, GIVE A WOMAN A LIFT affirms the necessity of rising on one's own steam, rather than waiting for others to push or pull us up. GIVE A WOMAN A LIFT opens tonight, November 8, 2013 at the Joe Goode Annex in San Francisco, and runs through Saturday, November 16.

Zaccho Dance Theatre to Showcase New Installation Based on W.E.B. DuBois, 11/1-3

Choreographer, director and Bay Area performance innovator Joanna Haigood will explore issues of race and identity in the world premiere of her new performance installation, Between me and the other world, Friday through Sunday, November 1 through 3 from 1 to 5 pm at Zaccho Studio, 1777 Yosemite Avenue, Studio 330, in San Francisco. A dynamic exploration of scholar and civil rights leader W.E.B. DuBois' concept of "double consciousness", the performance installation has been created in collaboration with composer Anthony Brown, media artist David Szlasa, scenic designer Sean Riley and performing artists Jetta Martin, Raissa Simpson, Rashidi Omari and Matthew Wickett, who together have created an immersive environment that evokes the identity duality experienced by many people of color. On the cusp of its 10-year anniversary, RAWdance is proud to announce the world premiere of Mine, an evening-length work of contemporary dance created by RAWdance founders Ryan T. Smith and Wendy Rein. Inspired by the limitless stretches of fencing and barbed wire that partitions much of the rural American West, Mine focuses inward, probing the human urge to possess, consume and control.
