Currently celebrating its 25th anniversary season, Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company announced today the public phase of the company's 25th Birthday Gift Campaign. The campaign aims to raise funds to provide a more comfortable and fulfilling audience experience and provide theater artists with a better environment in which to do their work. As Aurora reaches its 25th birthday, it's time to celebrate the Aurora experience, refresh the theater, and prepare for the next quarter century.
Aurora Theatre Company Continues 25th Anniversary Season with SAFE HOUSE

Aurora Theatre Company presents the West Coast Premiere of Keith Josef Adkins'SAFE HOUSE. African-American Shakespeare Company Artistic Director L. Peter Callender, who appeared in the Aurora Theatre Company productions of "Master Harold…and the boys," Breakfast With Mugabe, The Soldier's Tale, and Permanent Collection, makes his Aurora directing debut with SAFE HOUSE, featuring Lance Gardner, David Everett Moore, Dawn L. Troupe, Cassidy Brown, Jamella Lagara Cross, and Dezi Soley. SAFE HOUSE plays November 4 through December 4at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. Aurora Theatre Company Announces Christopher Chen Commission

Aurora Theatre Company announces the company's newest Originate + Generate (O+G) artist commission, Christopher Chen. Chen has been commissioned for the company's 25th anniversary season to create a new play specifically for the Aurora stage; the working title for the new piece is Secretary of State. As with current O+G artists Jonathan Spector(The State of Nature) and Beth Wilmurt (Cabaret Olga), Chen will have the opportunity to create new work via a process of his own devising and will receive financial support in the form of a $5000 grant. During the O+G creation process, audiences will be invited to attend various workshops and presentations as well as a series of pop-up readings by other theater makers.

Aurora Theatre Company proudly opens its 25th anniversary season with a revival of the play that started it all, DEAR MASTER. Joy Carlin (The How and The Why, Talley's Folly, Jack Goes Boating) helms this elegant portraitfeaturing Bay Area favorite Michael Ray Wisely (The Letters, The Arsonists) and Aurora's first leading lady Kimberly King (Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance), wife of Aurora co-founder Ken Grantham, who played Flaubert in the original production. Filthy traitor or silly duffer? This is the question at the centre of The Court Theatre's new production Plum, written by Roy Smiles.
Plum brings to the stage the most critical time in the life of popular 20th century writer, humourist and lyricist PG Wodehouse - or Plum as he was known to his friends.
"Wodehouse was then and remains one of the few authors who can make me laugh out loud," says playwright Roy Smiles. "Reading his books in a 1970s Britain scarred with National Front skinheads, strikes, race riots and IRA bombs it was deeply comforting escapism."
