Released from Otisville Correctional Institution in October of 2013 after serving 12 of his 25 year sentence for attempted murder, actor/writer Joe Assadourian went from the cage to the stage after discovering his theatrical ability while reluctantly participating in a workshop behind bars led by Off-Broadway solo-show actor/director Richard Hoehler. Developed by the duo over two years, both inside and outside the state prison system, The Bullpen premiered Off Broadway at The Playroom Theater (151 West 46thStreet - just east of Broadway) on June 22, 2014 for a strictly limited engagement. Due to popular demand, the show has enjoyed several extensions and continues performances into 2015.

The Bullpen, the one-man - 18-character comedy - will offer special holiday performances (see schedule below) and extend for the third time, it was announced today by producer Eric Krebs (in association with The Fortune Society).

Sex Today, Love Tomorrow with book and lyrics by Israela Margalit, music by Oran Eldor and directed by Obie Award winner John Clancy, with musical direction by Dan Green, will get an invite-only industry reading on Monday, November 10 at Ripley Grier Studios.

Receiving rave reviews during its summer run, Writer/Actor Joe Assadourian's hit Off-Broadway Comedy THE BULLPEN has opened ticket sales through November 22nd, 2014 at The Playroom Theater. The show, which is directed by Richard Hoehler, is largely influenced by Joe Assadourian's experiences having served 12 years in prison for attempted murder. This extension will include a celebratory performance on October 8th, which will mark the first anniversary of Joe Assadourian's release from Otisville Correctional Facility. The New York Times praised the one man show exclaiming that Joe Assadourian "is one terrific actor," "marvelous," and "extremely funny."

Jim McGreevey, the 52nd Governor of New Jersey, made a special appearance at the Saturday, June 28th, evening performance of Joe Assadourian's The Bullpen. A service volunteer to former prisoners seeking rehabilitation with the Exodus Transitional Community, McGreevey stopped for a photo with Playwright/Actor Joe Assadourian and Fortune Society Founder David Rothenberg.

Now open Off-Broadway at The Playroom Theater, The Bullpen hosted a special preview performance and Q & A for Prison Reform Advocates, Re-Entry Programs, and Theatrical Professionals. Those in attendance included The Legal Aid Society, Fortune Society, Incarcerated Nation Campaign, Urban Justice Center, Jails Action Coalition, and many more.

A new collaboration will take place this summer between Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, and the new Youth Summer Programs of the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). Students from Usdan's Senior Division Creative Writing Major will travel to BAM on July 23 and 26 to work with students in BAM's Style and Substance creative writing workshop.
