The ASCAP Pop Awards are always a good time, but this year's ceremony on April 23 was truly a night to remember. We gave out special honors to some of the brightest lights in music: iconic hitmaker Desmond Child (Founders Award), Portugal. The Man (Vanguard Award) and pop chanteuse Lana Del Rey (Global Impact Award), plus our four Songwriter of the Year honorees, Starrah, Drew Taggart, Steve Mac and Max Martin - and celebrated the writers and publishers of the most-performed songs of 2017. Universal Music Publishing Group was named Publisher of the Year, and BMG took home Independent Publisher of the Year honors for the third consecutive year.

ASCAP, the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers, hosted its 35th Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards on Monday, April 23, recognizing four impressive songwriting talents with a 2018 ASCAP Pop Music Songwriter of the Year award, each for their individual achievement in crafting some of the most popular songs of 2017. Steve Mac won for 'Shape of You' (Ed Sheeran), 'Strip That Down' (Liam Payne ft. Quavo), 'Rockabye' (Clean Bandit ft. Sean Paul) and 'What About Us' (P!nk); Max Martin, receiving the award for an unprecedented 11th time, for 'Side To Side' (Ariana Grande), 'Can't Stop The Feeling!' (Justin Timberlake), 'Send My Love' (Adele) and 'Just Like Fire' (P!nk); Starrah for 'Now or Never' (Halsey), 'Fake Love' (Drake), 'What Lovers Do' (Maroon 5 ft. SZA) and 'Havana' (Camila Cabello); and Drew Taggart for '1-800-273-8255' (Logic ft. Alessia Cara and Khalid) in addition to three hits by his band, The Chainsmokers: 'Something Just Like This' (ft. Coldplay), 'Closer' (ft. Halsey) and 'Paris.' ASCAP President and award-winning songwriter Paul Williamspresented the awards.

After 2016's incredible adventure in the USA, Russell Howard and his “twinkly eyed smasher of a mum” Ninette Howard return to our screens with a second supersized American trip. The highly anticipated 6 x 30 minute series showcasing an array of weird and wonderful characters launches on Comedy Central UK on the 26th March at 10pm. Russell Howard & Mum: USA Road Trip was the highest rating new commission on the channel the year it launched, achieving as much as +119% on the 16-34s slot average and +72% on the adults slot average. The show reached a total of 2.4 million individuals resulting in a further two six-part series in Northern Europe and Asia being commissioned and with episodes increasing in length from 30 to 60 minutes.
