In the past few weeks, we've watched the nominations roll in. Today the final crop of nominees have been revealed, all leading to next week's ultimate announcement- the 2018 Tony nominations.

Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers and commentators covering New York theater for out-of-town newspapers, national publications and other media beyond Broadway, announced today (April 24, 2018) its nominees for the 2017-18 season. Broadway's "Come From Away" starJenn Colella along with "The Band's Visit" sensation Katrina Lenk presided over the (11AM) announcement ceremony in the Oak Room at New York's renowned Algonquin Hotel (59 W 44th Street). 

Simon Jones (The Real Thing, Benefactors), will join the cast of the Shakespeare's Globe production of FARINELLI AND THE KING on Tuesday, January 9, playing the role of opera impresario John Rich. Colin Hurley, who was scheduled for a limited run in the role, will play his final performance as John Rich on Sunday, January 7.

Fans of trained actors filling Broadway houses with the richness of their unamplified voices (not to mention those who believe electric lights are overrated) have reason to rejoice. Shakespeare's Globe, the British theatre company that in 2014 arrived on Broadway with their productions of TWELFTH NIGHT and RICHARD III that replicated Elizabethan theatre technological, is back in town with a new play that is also witnessed solely by candlelight and graced with actors who project.

On-stage seating for the Shakespeare's Globe production of FARINELLI AND THE KING, starring three-time Tony Award winner and Academy Award winner Mark Rylance, will go on sale on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 10:00 AM.The Belasco Theatre will be transformed for this beguiling and transporting production, lit almost exclusively by the glow of candlelight and with live music played on Baroque instruments. Theatregoers who choose on-stage seats, in the upper gallery and at stage level ($32-$157) will have an authentic, up close and intimate viewing experience. Barter Theatre introduces "Footloose: The Musical" on Friday May 19. The production starts this week and runs until August 12 on Barter Theatre's Gilliam Stage. The play features Joseph Matthew Veale, Sarah Laughland and other members of Barter Theatre's resident acting company.

Paul Russell-director, casting director, and author of ACTING: Make It Your Business-is tapped to helm the U.S. regional premiere of MAMMA MIA! for the TONY-honored Barter Theatre. He steps aside from his casting projects which have included casting for HBO, 20th Century Fox, New York and regional theater. With his directing career Russell is experienced with regional firsts. He directed the regional premiere of John Guare's A FREE MAN OF COLOR in which Mr. Guare participated.

The Broadway Artists Connection (BAC) concludes it's 2015 season with the BAC ALL STARS Benefit on Sunday, Dec. 13th (3pm) at the legendary Don't Tell Mama.  Hosted by Broadway veteran, Director, Choreographer and Founder of the New York Song & Dance Company Noah Racey, the event will be kicked off by several Broadway pros (listed below). Pride Films and Plays is delighted to announce the winner of our 2015 Great Gay Screenplay contest is Somebody to Love by Jay Cipriani. The victor was selected Sunday, November 15 at the conclusion of PFP?s Gay Film Week in the Hoover-Leppen Theatre of Center on Halsted. The weekend included enhanced staged readings of the top five scripts, including A Place in the Woods by Erik Gernand, Finndale by Lloyd Ohls, Drowning City by Chuck Griffith, and The Gay Shoe Clerks by Brad Cryan. The week also commenced on Monday, November 9 with Queer Bits Fall Film Festival II at the Public House Theatre. The festival included two programs comprised of 11 short films all having their Chicago premieres and included a talkback with Chicago filmmaker Dan Pal, whose short Another Party with Scotty was featured in the festival.
