NCTC Presents World Premiere of Jewelle Gomez's LEAVING THE BLUES

New Conservatory Theatre Center continues its 35th Anniversary celebration in March, proudly presenting the world premiere of Jewelle Gomez's Leaving the Blues, an NCTC commissioned play with music imagining the life of legendary Blues singer-songwriter Alberta Hunter (1895-1984). In the new play by the celebrated Gilda Stories' author, Hunter is backstage preparing for a professional comeback, knowing just how many doors to the past it may open. Spanning 60 years, Leaving the Blues imagines a journey through the public life Hunter led as an African-American musician, the private life she hid as a lesbian, and the ghosts that won't let her forget.

FoolsFURY Theater Company is proud to announce theNorth American premiere of The Unheard of World, a dark and eccentric fantasy by playwrightFabrice Melquiot translated from the French by foolsFURY company member Michelle Haner. A play for all ages, The Unheard of World tells the interwoven stories of a 200,000 year-old man, a girl half-swallowed by a bear, a little boy who refused to be born and a woman yearning, even in death, to have a child. The play opens in preview Friday, October 2 with a press opening the following evening, Saturday, October 3 at 8pm. The Unheard of World runs Thursdays - Saturdays through October 31. Following the success of the fifth FURY Factory festival of ensemble theater, foolsFURY is proud to announce the world premiere of Faulted, a play written by Angela Santillo and directed by Evren Odcikin. Faulted is an ode to California in all its mysterious, tectonic, plate-shifting contradictions. Epic and romance, vegan and carnivore, West side and Central Valley combine under the sign of the next 'Big One,' just looming under the horizon. Faulted opens in previews tonight, November 14 at the Thick House in San Francisco, and runs for three weeks through December 7.
