Now being performed at the Kauffman Center and concluding this weekend is a wonderful rendition by the Lyric Opera of Kansas City of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s final composition together, “The Sound of Music” This production is as good as it gets. Framed by massive settings by Peter J. Davison and glorious costumes by Alex Valasek, “Sound of Music” is the incredible, mostly true tale of the Von Trapp family singers and their escape from the Nazis taken from the Matriarch Maria Von Trapp’s 1949 memoir.

After recently announcing the first-ever sensory-friendly mainstage play on Bainbridge Island, Neurodiversity Allies, in partnership with Sensory Access, is proud to announce the first-ever sensory-inclusive mainstage musical on the island. Bainbridge Island now has two small community theatres (ind Theatre and Ovation! Performing Arts Northwest) prioritizing inclusion and accessibility for autistic and other neurodivergent community members.

MTW's pleasantly perky, traditionally-executed production comes across as a show that's very eager to please, armed with a keen, fine-tuned goal of making sure both fans and newbies to this beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein classic are left feeling uplifted and happy. The show continues through November 5 at the Carpenter Center in Long Beach.
