Even though Rydell High's easily excitable and enthusiastic head cheerleader, Patty Simcox, might not be the coolest kid in school, Elle McLemore, the equally as excited and enthusiastic actress who plays her in the upcoming GREASE LIVE!, is as sweet and likeable as can be. Most theatre fans know McLemore for playing less than loveable cheerleaders, first as the Machiavellian Eva in BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL, and then as the dim-witted Heather McNamara in HEATHERS THE MUSICAL. Despite some of her character's worst traits, McLemore is always disarmingly sweet and infectiously charming.

With her current role downtown in Max Posner's 'Judy', the award-winning actress is helping launch another playwright's career.

MCC Theater's Permission, the new comedy from Hand to God playwright Robert Askins recently extended by a week through June 14th. Permission celebrates its Opening Night tonight, May 20th, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street). Permission stars Justin Bartha, of Broadway's Lend Me A Tenor, Off-Broadway's All New People and the blockbuster film The Hangover; Twilight Saga and 'Grey's Anatomy' Emmy-nominated star Elizabeth Reaser, returning to MCC following her critically acclaimed performance in this fall's The Money Shot; and theater regulars Nicole Lowrance, Talene Monahon, and Lucas Near-Verbrugghe. Ben Rosenfield, memorably of the final two seasons of 'Boardwalk Empire,' and rising talent Sophia Anne Caruso will take on the roles of Woodnut and Iris, respectively. As previously announced, The Nether will also star 'Nurse Jackie' Emmy Award winner Merritt Wever, New York theater veteran Peter Friedman and Tony Award winner Frank Wood.

The Irish Repertory Theatre continues the 9th season of its Reading Series with Joseph Dougherty's play Chester Bailey, directed by Ron Lagomarsino. The reading will be held today, January 30 at 3pm (EST) at the DR2 Theater, 103 East 15th Street, the Irish Repertory Theatre's temporary home during its current renovations. The reading is FREE and open to the public.
