Deaf West Theatre presents the American premiere of The Solid Life of Sugar Water by Tony Award-winning playwright Jack Thorne(Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). Randee Trabitz directs for a Sept. 12 opening at Inner-City Arts in downtown L.A., where performances will continue through Oct 13. Previews take place Sept. 5 through Sept. 8.

Negative racial and ethnic stereotypes, anti-ageism, political philosophical differences, and border conflicts are not usual topics for a comic play. But, author Karen Zacarias, whose 'Native Gardens' is now in production at Cleveland Play House, believes 'humor humanizes' when what could be the basis of a blood bath becomes a pool of laughter with a purpose.

Cleveland Play House (CPH), offers the thought-provoking comedy Native Gardens from playwright Karen Zacarias, to be performed April 27th - May 19th  in the Allen Theatre at Playhouse Square.  The production is directed by CPH Associate Artistic Director Robert Barry Fleming, with a press opening Friday, May 3rd.

Denver Center for the Performing Arts presents AMERICAN MARIACHI, a new play written by Jose Cruz Gonzalez. The Old Globe celebrates the world premiere of Jose Cruz Gonzalez's play American Mariachiwith a Virtual Battle of the Mariachi Bands. Starting today, February 2, Southern California mariachi bands can submit a video for the world to see (see below for contest guidelines). Audiences will then be able to vote for their favorite band startingFriday, February 9 at 12:00 noon through Friday, March 16. The first-, second-, and third-prize winners will be announcedMonday, March 19. Only the first 20 eligible videos received will be presented online to the public for voting, so interested bands should act fast!

2Cents's Acting Out INK Fest is back for its 3rd exciting year, organized by its Founding President and Artistic Director Kristin Boule. The Fest is being held for 3 days this weekend at the Hudson Theatres in Hollywood, right in the heart of Theatre Row and the LA 99-seat community. INK FEST 2016 features fully produced 1-act plays, ranging from 10-60 minutes, organized in themed-groups, featuring over 100 artists from playwrights to directors to actors and street artists celebrating the FEMALE PLAYWRIGHT and ART. A total of 21 plays by 19 female playwrights are being presented, with 19 directors and 49 actors. What's more, the festival will flood not just the theatre, but also the street & the Hudson Cafe, serving wine & beer all weekend long, with special events scattered throughout.
