Steppenwolf Announces Public Square Event With Sudhir Venkatesh, 11/4

What does it take to make it to the top? Hard work? Pure luck? A trust fund? Audiences are diving into these questions nightly at Steppenwolf Theatre Company's current hit production of Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. Two days before the 2012 presidential election, Steppenwolf hosts Making Money: From the Black Market to the Board Room, a deeper conversation about the relationship between class, privilege and success featuring Sudhir Venkatesh, award-winning author, professor at Columbia University and Freakonomics contributor, who will share his insights with Steppenwolf Artistic Director Martha Lavey. Making Money: From the Black Market to the Board Room is on November 4, 2012 at 7pm in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). Tickets ($20) go on sale October 12 at 11am through Audience Services (1650 N Halsted), at 312-335-1650 or at steppenwolf.org. Rehearsals began this week at Steppenwolf Theatre Company for the 2012/13 season opener, Good People, Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire's surprising, humorous and deeply moving tale of a modern American story set in economically opposed South Boston and Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Ensemble member K. Todd Freeman directs Lindsay-Abaire's Steppenwolf debut, featuring ensemble members Alana Arenas, Mariann Mayberry and Molly Regan. Good People begins previews September 13, with an opening night slated for September 23, and runs through November 11, 2012, in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre. How lucky we are in the DC area. Rich with culture, the region has an especially vibrant theater scene. Arena Stage is a prominent part of that scene and this year they are treating us to something special - The Eugene O'Neill Festival. Arena is working with other area venues to present the festival for two months. They have kicked off the festival with O'Neill's comedy, Ah, Wilderness!

Ah, Wilderness!, Eugene O'Neill's joyous and truthful depiction of American family life at the turn of the 20thcentury, will kick off the two-month citywide Eugene O'Neill Festival at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. From a playwright better known for his darker stories comes the brilliant Ah, Wilderness!, O'Neill's singular comedy that represents a fantasy of what his own childhood might have been. Helen Hayes Award winner and former Arena Stage Associate Artistic Director Kyle Donnelly returns to direct her 21st show at Arena Stage, which features an almost entirely local cast led by Rick Foucheux, Nancy Robinette and June Schreiner. Ah, Wilderness! runs March 9-April 8, 2012 in the Fichandler Stage.
