Honorees Announced for Ninth Annual Opera News Awards

The editors of Opera News are pleased to announce the honorees for the ninth annual Opera News Awards, paying tribute to five superb artists who have made invaluable contributions to the art form: director Patrice Chéreau, tenor Juan Diego Flórez, mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig, bass-baritone James Morris and soprano Nina Stemme. The Opera News Awards ceremonywill take place on Sunday, April 13 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. All the winners - and a host of the city's cultural, civic, and social luminaries - will be present at the gala awards dinner, which will feature celebrity presenters speaking about the awardees and introducing video performance clips.

Theatre Now New York makes its debut appearance with Cabaret, Music by John Kander, Lyrics by Fred Ebb, book by Joe Masteroff, at the Pocketbook Factory, located at North 6th St. and Washington St. in Hudson, NY. It will be directed by Thomas Morrissey with choreography by Mikala Freitas and musical direction by Mary Sugar. The production opens tonight, August 2nd and runs through Sunday August 4th, and then continues Thursday August 8th through Sunday August 11th.

Megan Hilty, Matthew Morrison & More to Be Featured in Boston Pops' Spring 2013 Season

The 2013 Boston Pops season, May 8-June 15, under the direction of Keith Lockhart, will present a season-long tribute to the world of movie music, along with programs featuring a wide variety of American musical styles, including jazz, bluegrass, country, gospel, pop, classic standards from the 50s and 60s, and show-stopping songs of Broadway and the American Songbook. For the programs focusing on the season theme, 'Best of Hollywood Film Music,' audiences will hear their favorite music from classic movies and today's popular soundtracks performed live by the Boston Pops, while the accompanying movie clips are projected onto a giant screen suspended above the orchestra. Houston Ballet Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of THE RITE OF SPRING, 3/7-17

From March 7-17, 2013, Houston Ballet will present The Rite of Spring, a program of premieres featuring three exciting 21st century choreographers and honoring the centenary of the premiere of Igor Stravinsky and Vaslav Nijinsky's landmark work. The company will unveil the world premiere of Stanton Welch's The Rite of Spring. A world premiere by internationally renowned choreographer Edwaard Liang to music by the Italian composer Ezio Bosso and a Houston Ballet premiere of Mark Morris's Pacific round out the program.

In front of a standing room only crowd of filmmakers, film industry and an incredibly enthusiastic audience, Louisiana Film Prize's Executive Director Gregory Kallenberg and his team announced the Grand Prize Winner for the inaugural Louisiana Film Prize. "The Legend of Luther Anderson," directed by Thomas Woodruff, Noah Scruggs, Chris Armand was awarded a $50,000 cash grand prize, one of the world's largest cash prizes for a short film at yesterday's awards ceremony. The film was one of twenty finalists competing at the The Louisiana Film Prize Festival Weekend (www.LAFilmPrize.com) this past weekend in Shreveport, LA. The Louisiana Film Prize invited filmmakers from all over the world to create and present a short film under one condition - it must have been shot in the Shreveport-Bossier area.
