The Lark Play Development Center is pleased to host Belarus Free Theatre for a public reading of Charonville by Nikolai Khalezin, directed by Lisa Rothe, with original translation by Yuriy Koliada and Rory Mullarky and dramaturgical and translation assistance by Erik Ehn. The reading takes place at 7pm on Wednesday, September 22 at the Lark Studio.

Middle East America: A National New Plays Initiative, created by Golden Thread Productions in San Francisco, the Lark Play Development Center in New York, and Silk Road Theatre Project in Chicago, is gearing up for the second round of the program which represents the first national effort to actively cultivate and support the development of Middle Eastern-American playwrights and their plays.

The Lark Play Development Center will host French-African playwright Koffi Kwahulé in New York City on May 13 and 14. Free public readings of Kwahulé's play, THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC, translated by Chantal Bilodeau will be presented at the Lark Studio. The readings are part of Lark's 7 year project to translate, develop, and publish seven of Kwahulé's plays in an effort to both encourage international exchange and to bring to the forefront a unique theatrical voice.

The Lark Play Development Center announced the selected playwrights for the 2009-10 Playwrights' Workshop. This year's writers are Michi Barall (Ma-Yi Writer's Lab), Madeleine George (13P founding member), Katori Hall (Lark's 2009 PONY Fellow), Sarah Treem (HBO's 'In Treatment') and David Wiener (Extraordinary Chambers).

Previews begin April 4 and the play is slated to run through May 3. Directed by noted Off-Broadway wunderkind Trip Cullman, American Hwangap makes fresh the homecoming structure with a heartbreaking Korean American experience set against a canvas of highway 80, desert, and mythic cowboy lore. As a recipient of the Lark Play Development Center's 'Launching New Plays into the Repertoire Initiative' supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, American Hwangap will follow its production at the Magic with performances at the Denver Center Theatre Company, Ma-Yi Theatre Company, The Play Company in New York, and Tanghalang Pilipino in the Philippines.
