BWW Review: SPAMALOT at Lied Center For Performing Arts, Lincoln
by Christine Swerczek
- Nov 3, 2018
I don't like Spam. To me, it's mystery meat and I don't like the taste. I looked it up on the internet to see what it is made from. It was introduced by Hormel in 1937 to increase the sale of pork shoulder. Few know the true origination of the name 'Spam,' but suggestions include 'Specially Processed Army Meat.' My favorite more colorful descriptions are 'meatloaf without basic training' and 'ham that didn't pass its physical.' Spam has recently been adopted as the term for inappropriate or irrelevant messages that flood our inboxes. This all fits.

The hugely popular The Great Yorkshire Fringe will bring an eclectic mix of comedy, theatre, cabaret and magic shows, as well as the best food and drink the North has to offer to York for an eleven-day festival. Now in its fourth year, the festival offers a wide variety of entertainment for everybody from proud Yorkies to the curious under-tens; the magic show admirer to the jazz connoisseur. All served up with a feast of food stalls and cementing itself as one of the biggest events in York's cultural calendar, The Great Yorkshire Fringe celebrates York's recently attained title of the Sunday Times' 'Best Place To Live In The UK' 2018. The festival will put the City Centre in the spotlight as it transforms Parliament Street into a village green with the spectacular White Rose Rotunda and Turn Pot Spiegeltents, and host events at the stunning Grand Opera House and pop up venues throughout the city.
Photo Flash: Inside Rehearsal for BEIRUT at Park Theatre

The UK revival of Beirut by American playwright and author Alan Bowne is set to be performed at Park Theatre from 12th June to 7th July 2018. Written in the 1980s at the height of the AIDS crisis (which the playwright died of at 44 years old), Beirut is a cutting examination of a society ravaged by a nameless disease. Although written at a particular moment in history, the play transcends the issues of its time, and at its heart is a dark love story, questioning how society deals with the 'abnormal' in a society gone mad with fear and ignorance. The issues explored are particularly relevant to 2018, when viruses such as Sars and Zika are prominent, and with an increasing and inevitable resistance to antibiotics.

BWW Review: CFTA's SPAMALOT is Good For What Ails You
by Jeffrey Ellis
- Feb 19, 2018
Terrific performances across the board, sprightly direction that keeps the action moving at a quick clip-clop and a no-holds-barred sense of ridiculous theatricality all come together in Center for the Arts' production of Monty Python's Spamalot, the hilarious stage musical based on the irreverent troupe's 1975 film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail. With a slate filled with stage favorites - of both the musical and 'straight' variety - still to come in 2018, Murfreesboro's CFTA will likely have a banner year.

Review: 3-D Theatricals SPAMALOT Brings Stunning Broadway Caliber Production to Local Audiences
by Shari Barrett
- Aug 8, 2017
When Monty Python's Flying Circus first premiered on television in 1969, few could have imagined how influential the program would become thanks to the inventive minds of its six main collaborators Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. Known for their surreal slapstick humor which satirized the over-politeness perceived to be the epitome of British culture, the series spawned multiple films, some stage performances, and the outrageously hysterical musical SPAMALOT, mostly based off the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and some of the television show's more memorable skits. The original 2005 Broadway production was nominated for 14 Tony Awards, including the scenery and costumes currently being used in the thoroughly entertaining 3-D Theatricals musical comedy extravaganza from August 4 - 13 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center and August 18 - 27, 2017 at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
