Lang Lang to be Honored at Music Institute Gala, 5/13

The Music Institute of Chicago, now in its 83rd year, hosts its annual gala Monday, May 13 at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, 120 East Delaware Place. The oldest community music school in Illinois and one of the three largest community music schools in the nation, the Music Institute is planning a celebratory evening highlighted by the presentation of the Dushkin Award to internationally acclaimed pianist, cultural ambassador and educator Lang Lang.

The innovative Croatian duo 2CELLOS, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser have announced their first US national tour starting April 2013 in support of IN2ITION, their sophomore album available now on Sony Masterworks. Recorded around the world in Rome, Nashville, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and their native Croatia, IN2ITION is a collection of Sulic and Hauser's classical-pop/rock takes on unmistakable tracks by artists including Rihanna, Muse, AC/DC, Lang Lang, Coldplay and Elton John. 2CELLOS' live show is nothing short of captivating. The energy between the classically-trained pair is palpable as they use their classical instruments to fit a contemporary repertoire.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Classical KUSC continue their annual radio broadcast partnership, reaching over half a million listeners in Southern and Central California. The 13 concerts, recorded during the LA Phil's 2012/13 season, feature the orchestra with an impressive roster of guest artists and conductors. The first broadcast features Gustavo Dudamel leading the LA Phil in Ravel's Pavane for a Dead Princess, the world premiere of Steven Stucky's Symphony and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, and airs locally on KUSC-FM 91.5 Los Angeles, Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 7 PM.

Two-time Tony Nominee Christine Andreas, Tony Nominee Emily Skinner, Drama Desk Nominees Kerry O'Malley and Jeffry Denman, and two-time Nightlife Award Winner Scott Coulter will star in The Broadway Musicals of 1961 at Town Hall on Monday, March 11th at 8 PM. Thomas Hampson to Make Met Debut as Verdi's Iago in OTELLO, March 11; Announces 2013 US Engagements

This spring, Thomas Hampson's U.S. engagements take him from opera house to concert and recital hall, and from Verdi and Mahler to the latest in contemporary American composition. The baritone makes his company role debut as Iago in Otello at the Metropolitan Opera (March 11) and premieres new chamber works by Michael Hersch (Feb 26) and Mark Adamo (April 24), before touring the latter to the Boston Celebrity Series (April 26) and New York's Lincoln Center (April 28). Besides singing songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn with the Indianapolis Symphony (Feb 22-23), his orchestral collaborations also take him back to Europe to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in a star-studded gala benefit (April 10) and reprise the title role of Simon Boccanegra with the Vienna Symphony, in a concert performance that will be recorded for future album release (April 13 & 17).

On the 203rd anniversary of Lincoln's birth, the Metropolitan Museum presents a special performance of 'Lincoln Seen and Heard,' a program that has been performed at the White House, Ford's Theatre, the George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton Presidential Libraries, and other venues. Actor Stephen Lang (Avatar, Terra Nova, A Few Good Men) reads the words of Lincoln, as the Metropolitan Museum's Harold Holzer, an award-winning Lincoln scholar, narrates and illustrates with Lincoln photographs. Lincoln was frequently photographed at precisely the time of his most important speeches, and this program combines his words and pictures to evoke the real Lincoln-from his days as prairie politician to the presidency and immortality.
