On Friday, March 24th, Mayor Eric Adams gave a Mayoral Proclamation to 96-year-old John Kander in celebration of the first Broadway performance of his new musical New York, New York. Following the proclamation, Lin-Manuel Miranda unveiled the sign renaming 44th Steet 'Kander & Ebb Way' and the Manhattan School of Music performed the iconic Kander & Ebb song 'New York, New York.' On this day in 2012, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's landmark musical EVITA received its first Broadway revival at the Marquis Theatre. It was the first new Broadway production of the seven-time Tony Award-winning musical since it debuted on Broadway over 30 years ago.

Next up in the Encores! season is Do I Hear a Waltz?, the romantic, rarely-seen 1965 musical that marked the only collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim. Do I Hear a Waltz? will star Claybourne Elder, Melissa Errico, Sarah Hunt, Zachary Infante, Cass Morgan, Richard Poe, Michael Rosen, Sarah Stiles, and Richard Troxell. The ensemble includes Kristine Bendul, Paloma Garcia-Lee, Jenny Laroche, Jennifer Locke, Nathan Madden, Skye Mattox, Devin Roberts, Manny Stark, and Alex Wong.

The Tony Award nominated revival of On The Town concludes its run on Broadway tonight, September 6, following 28 previews and 368 regular performances, making this the longest-running Broadway production of the show since the 1944 original. ON THE TOWN began previews on September 20, 2014 and officially opened on October 16, 2014 at the Lyric Theatre. To mark tonight's closing, BroadwayWorld takes you back through the musical's run on the Great White Way!

Beginning last night, August 25, American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Misty Copeland made her Broadway debut as 'Ivy Smith' in the Tony Award nominated revival of On The Town, continuing in the role through the end of the musical's run on September 6. 

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, New York City Ballet principal dancer and Theatre World Award Winner Megan Fairchild departed the Broadway revival of On The Town last weekend. Now, New York City Ballet soloist Georgina Pazcoguin steps into the role of 'Ivy Smith' for performances from tonight, August 11, through August 23. Beginning August 25, Misty Copeland will make her Broadway debut in the role for 12 performances only, through September 6.

New York City Ballet principal dancer and Theatre World Award Winner Megan Fairchild will depart the Broadway revival of ON THE TOWN on August 9 to return to the NYC Ballet. Fairchild will be succeeded by New York City Ballet soloist Georgina Pazcoguin, who will step into the role of 'Ivy Smith' for performances from August 11 - 23. Beginning August 25,Misty Copeland will make her Broadway debut as 'Ivy Smith' for 12 performances only, through September 6.
