League of Chicago Theatres Welcomes New Board and Executive Committee Members

The League of Chicago Theatres proudly announces the election of the Executive Committee Members and the appointment of four new members to The Board of Directors. The Executive Committee includes Board Chair Kate Lipuma, Executive Director, Writers Theatre; Vice Chair Rachel Kraft, Executive Director, Lookingglass Theatre Company; Treasurer Heather Schmucker, Associate Producer, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre; and Secretary Dan McArdle, Managing Director, The Neo-Futurists. Elected by members of the League, newly-elected Board Members include Brittany Barnes, Managing Director, Pavement Group; Peter Handler, Program Director, Richard H. Driehaus Foundation; Bill Melamed, Chief Marketing and Development Officer, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago; and Regina Taylor, Artistic Collective, Goodman Theatre.

Sideshow Theatre Company to Stage THE GOLDEN DRAGON, 1/18-2/23

Sideshow Theatre Company continues its 2013-14 season on the heels of its critically acclaimed production of 9 Circles with the Chicago premiere of the darkly comic drama THE GOLDEN DRAGON by Roland Schimmelpfennig, playwright of the Sideshow's 2012 Jeff Award-winning production of Idomeneus (Best Ensemble), with translation by David Tushingham and direction by Artistic Director Jonathan L. Green and Marti Lyons. THE GOLDEN DRAGON plays January 18 - February 23, 2014 at Victory Gardens' Richard Christiansen Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago, where Sideshow is kicking off its multi-year residency. Sheila's Sister Presents SPOLIAN ANALYSIS, Now thru 9/28

Sheila's Sister will perform Spolian Analysis at Bughouse Theater at 8PM todays in September (9/7; 9/14; 9/21; 9/28). Tickets are $10, $5 for students. Jack Bronis will join Dana O'Brien and Edmund O'Brien as 'The Therapist' in this improvised hour-long show where the audience members fill out patient history forms to create four characters that go through individual and couples therapy sessions. Bughouse Theater is located at 2054 W. Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL, 60618.

Players' Shakespeare: Onstage is proud to present William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice which will open July 18th and run through August 4th. Dominic Cuskern(Inherit the Wind, A Perfect Ganesh), Broadway veteran and long-standing member of the Pearl Theatre Resident Acting Company, stars as Shylock. Returning to Gallery, David Patrick Ford (Macbeth, Othello) will play Antonio opposite Cuskern. Gallery President and admired Director Mark Harborth (Noises Off, Chess, Othello, Dreamgirls) will again direct. Bringing the play to life under Harborth's direction are Lighting Designer Scott A. Calley, Sound Designer Jacob Subotnick, Costume Designer/Asst. Director Sidney Fortner, Stage Manager Becky J. Doster and Producer Frankie Dailey. The cast will include Erin Beirnard as Portia, Hunter Hoffman as Bassanio, Louis Lavoie as Launcelot, as well as J.B. Alexander, Kevin Blackwelder, Colin Dweir, Cara Farlow, Jonathan Green, Luke Hofmaier, Mark Kinch, Zack Krajnyak, Chris Richards, Louise Stewart.

Dominic Cuskern to Lead Gallery Players' THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, 7/18-8/4

Performances will take place at 7:30 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as well as 3:00 pm on Sunday. Tickets are $18 for Adults, $14 for senior citizens and children 12 and under. The International Voices Project Announces Line Up for Fourth Annual Series

Playwrights from Switzerland, France, Canada, Egypt, Austria, Brazil, Italy, and Wales are all represented in the 4th annual International Voices Project (IVP 2013), running from March 7 to March 17 at Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago. The International Voices Project is the largest event of its kind in the country and introduces Chicago audiences to some of the most exciting voices on the international theater scene.

Egypt, Canada, Ukraine Among Countries Featured in International Voices Project

Presented in collaboration with the represented country's consulates general and cultural institutions, the International Voices Project will celebrate the voices of international playwrights with eight premiere concert-style readings of selected plays that will be performed by a professional cast with stage directions read to allow audiences imaginations to create the world of the play. After each reading, there will be a post-performance discussion with the cast and audience, followed by a reception hosted by the consulates.

Festival events include a workshop conducted by Dan Clancy, International Playwright of The Timekeepers; a panel discussion with Dan Clancy, John Tolley - Guest Director of The Timekeepers and Phillip Colglazier - Executive/Artistic Director of Fort Wayne Civic Theatre; stage reading of the 2nd place play - Knitters Row and the 3rd place play - Struggling For My Sanity; and staged performances of the 1st place winning play - Discom-BOOB-ulated and also The Timekeepers. In addition there will be a reception at the Courtyard by Marriott following the Saturday, June 4th performance of The Timekeepers*.
