 The Suzi Bass Awards revealed nominations for the 2015-2016 Atlanta professional theatre season on Monday evening, September 12, to patrons and industry artists. The Suzi Nomination Party was generously hosted by the Alliance Theatre, at 6:30pm in The Circle Room, on the third floor, 1280 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia, 30309. 

The Theatrical Outfit's '15-'16 Season of Courage concludes with the heart-stopping, romantic musical THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, running now through May 15, 2016 at The Balzer Theater at Herren's (downtown Atlanta). Atlanta, GA, November 2, 2015-The Suzi Bass Awards, Inc. announced winners for the 2014-2015 Atlanta professional theatrical season this evening at the 11th annual awards ceremony held at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center. Presenters included local favorite performers Denise Arribas, Tiffany Porter, Gina Rickicki, Clifton Guterman, Kevin Harry, Jeremiah Parker Hobbs, Chris Kayser, and Topher Payne.

Rehearsals are underway for the Alliance's upcoming production of the classic 1960s drama, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, by Dale Wasserman and based on the novel by Ken Kesey. The Alliance's production, directed by Susan V. Booth (Blues for an Alabama Sky, The Geller Girls, August: Osage County), will feature some of Atlanta's most talented and well-respected actors in one of the largest ensembles of the 2015/16 season. There has barely been a bad word said about this show since it debuted on Broadway in 2012 (racking up seven Tony nominations), but because I didn't know much about it, I took a while to settle into the comedic rhythm of Georgia Shakespeare's production of ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS. However, once I realized that the show was far more farcical than I at first realized, it became one of the most laugh-out-loud, joyous nights of theatre I have had in years. So, if you go and see this show (which you absolutely should) simply give into the goofiness; you will thank me when you do.

To borrow a phrase from a less-comedic Bard classic, Georgia Shakespeare's AS YOU LIKE is "a hit, a palpable hit." As has come to be expected, Courtney Patterson is exceedingly captivating as Rosalind, the show's female (and male) lead. The Suzi Bass Award winner leads this fantastic ensemble through a marvelously musical take on this story of betrayal, love-at-first-sight, and cross-dressing. With much discussion lately about women in theatre, it was exciting that Georgia Shakespeare chose a show that not only features strong female characters driving the story, but also to include women in central supporting roles that otherwise could have been portrayed by men.
