Florida Studio Theatre presents a new Summer Season lineup - with a Ring Cycle-inspired musical, a Pulitzer Prize-winning love story, and a comedy full of mistaken identities and slamming doors. The Summer Season opens June 13 and plays through September 9 in the Keating and Gompertz Theatres (Downtown Sarasota). FST's hit country musical Cowgirls has been extended through July 17, due to popular demand. The 'energetic' musical is under the direction of Mary Murfitt (concept of COWGIRLS/composer/lyricist) and music direction by Mary Ehlinger (musical arrangments for COWGIRLS), and brings together six talented actresses-singers-musicians 'for a thoroughly enjoyable evening of musical theatre.' (SCENE Magazine)

Grab your boots and hold onto your cowboy hats, the off-Broadway country musical Cowgirls kicks off the Florida Studio Theatre 2011 Summer Season this June. The musical comedy with a big heart is the brainchild of playwright Mary Murfitt, with music and lyrics by Ms. Murfitt, a book by Betsy Howie, and musical arrangements by Mary Ehlinger. COWGIRLS plays preview performances June 8 and 9, with a press opening June 10 in the Keating Theatre. 'Make Music New York' Returns With Free Concerts 6/21

Make Music New York, described by city officials as "one of the largest musical events in the city's history," is back for a fourth year of free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City, all on the first day of summer. On Monday, June 21, from 10 in the morning until 10 at night, musicians of all ages and musical persuasions - from Hip-hop to opera, Latin jazz to punk rock - will perform on streets, sidewalks, stoops, plazas, cemeteries, parks and gardens. Alex Ross of The New Yorker called last year's installment "impressive - more than 800 events across five boroughs. Subversive…musical disruptions invite urban dwellers to abandon their tight routines and let the rhythms of the city take over."
