Yesterday, March 7, The 24 Hour Company teamed with the Exchange to produce The 24 Hour Musicals at The Gramercy Theatre. Four brand new musicals were written, cast, rehearsed and performed in a single day, featuring an star-studded line up of Broadway performers, composers, writers, directors, choreographers and musical directors. Creative director Ted Sperling (musical director of Light in the Piazza, South Pacific and Guys & Dolls), led some of the theatre's brightest talent from Broadway, film and television as they collaborated under one roof, in one day, to create original musical theatre. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Rep) opens its 2010-2011 Studio Theatre series with the contemporary love story Next Fall by Geoffrey Nauffts.

Playwright Geoffrey Nauffts has put together a provocative and engaging evening of theatre with his work, NEXT FALL, which thematically concerns itself with issues of homosexuality and faith. It certainly fulfills my personal requirements for must-see theatre by making the audience laugh, cry and think, and it does so with a considerable amount of charm and wit. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis is presenting Next Fall as part of their Studio Theatre series, although it's being staged at the Grandel Theatre in order to take advantage of the space required, and they've assembled a splendid cast to bring this heart-breaking story to life.

The New York Times is reporting that the producers of THE 39 STEPS have begun discussions to move the play to New World Stages (where it could take the place of The Toxic Avenger, which announced this morning that it was closing). No decisions have been made, but Bob Boyett, the lead producer, tells the paper that they hope to follow Avenue Q's successful lead if business arrangements can be made.
