Breaking News: MISS SAIGON Finds Its Complete Broadway Cast; Rehearsals Begin!

Rehearsals begin Thursday, January 12 for Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed new production of Boublil and Schonberg's legendary musical MISS SAIGON, which will return to its original home, The Broadway Theater (1681 Broadway) beginning performancesWednesday, March 1. The original production of MISS SAIGON opened at the same theater on April 11, 1991 and played there through January 28, 2001. Directed by Laurence Connor (the recent hit revival of LES MISERABLES, School of Rock), the Broadway return of MISS SAIGON will feature four of its London stars, Jon Jon Briones as The Engineer, Eva Noblezada as Kim, Alistair Brammer as Chris and Rachelle Ann Go as Gigi. The cast also includes Katie Rose Clarke as Ellen, Nicholas Christopher as John, Devin Ilaw as Thuy. Lianah Sta. Ana will play the role of Kim at certain performances. MISS SAIGON has its official opening Thursday, March 23. MISS SAIGON will play a limited engagement through January 13, 2018 before launching a North American tour later in the year.

Casting has been completed for the upcoming concert production of Howard Goodall's The Hired Man. Joining the previously announced Jenna Russell and John Owen-Jones on September 22nd will be Sean Kearns (Wicked, The Commitments) as Pennington, Jessica Louise Parkinson (Love Beyond) as Sally, and James Moore (Matilda) as Harry. Meredith Willson's classic musical, THE MUSIC MAN, gets a lively and engaging workout on the stage of The MUNY. It's a show near and dear to my heart since I played the lead in a high school production many moons ago. It's also why I especially wanted my son to see it. Happily, he thoroughly enjoyed the show, and while there were some mistakes here and there, it was still an uplifting charmer that was filled with a slew of memorable songs and moments.

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music announces the appointment of two principal artists from the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Opera Orchestra to its woodwind faculty. Carey Bell, principal clarinet with the San Francisco Symphony, and Mingjia Liu, principal oboe with the San Francisco Opera, will begin teaching at SFCM in the fall semester of 2016. With these appointments, SFCM students will have the opportunity to study with a faculty that includes 30 members of the San Francisco Symphony, including 17 principal, associate, and assistant principal players, as well as four principals from the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet orchestras.
