Northlight Theatre's Associates Board hosts Up Close with Low Down Dirty Blues 6/1

Northlight Theatre's Associates Board is hosting Up Close with Low Down Dirty Blues to celebrate Northlight's production of Low Down Dirty Blues. The event will be held at Justins, 3358 N. Southport Avenue in Chicago, on June 1 at 6:30pm.

Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans announce the World Premiere of Low Down Dirty Blues, by Randal Myler and Dan Wheetman, the creators of It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues and Fire on the Mountain. The production will feature Tony Award nominee Felicia P. Fields (The Color Purple) in her first role in Chicago since The Color Purple and two-time Jeff Award-winner Mississippi Charles Bevel. The production will be directed by Randal Myler with musical direction by Dan Wheetman. Low Down Dirty Blues runs May 27 - July 3, 2010 at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie. The press opening is Saturday, June 5, 2010.

Vocalfest, presented by JazzMobile, kicks off its second weekend this Friday, April 16 and Saturday April 17 at Showman's. Vocalfest, Jazzmobile's month-long celebration, is held in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month. Gregory Generet, a Showman's performer, will frontline Friday's show. Lezlie Harrison will showcase her unique style--70's soul combined with jazz, for Vocalfest's Saturday night performance.

Jazzmobile Presents Vocalfest --- four weekends in April paying homage to Jazz Appreciation Month. New to Jazzmobile's events this year, Vocalfest is a month-long celebration paying tribute to jazz vocalists of the past and present. Starting Friday, April 9, Lynette Washington, winner of Jazzmobile's 2005 Jazz Vocal Competition, will perform. Lynette has worked with artists such as Aretha Franklin, U2, and Peter Gabriel. Cynthia Holiday, a New Jersey native and contemporary jazz singer, will follow on Saturday, April 10.

On Sunday, January 10 at the China Club Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Robert Schenkkan, and composer/lyricist Neil Berg presented an industry showcase of their new musical THE 12. Produced by Adam Friedson and Left Feild Productions, this musical showcase is a preview to its premiere production at the Broward Center this upcoming spring. The showcase, part of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters conference, was directed by Richard Seyd.
