Chosen by audiences as one of The Texas Repertory Theatre's "greatest hits", The Foreigner will preview on August 28th, open on August 29th, and run 4 performances a week through September 21st.

The comedic piece found success in London, running for seven years in its original production, but it failed to capture American audiences. In 1991, it was named in the Guinness Book of Records as the most performed French play throughout the world, and The Texas Repertory Theatre's sprightly production certainly indicates why it is so endearing.

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and benefit two leading charitable organizations for America's wounded military service members, veterans and their families - Boulder Crest Retreat for Military and Veteran Wellness and the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes. Mr. Walker comes to NC Opera with years of institutional experience, including driving development and fundraising campaigns for arts organizations around the country, and is an internationally known countertenor whose 18-year performance career took him to many of opera's greatest stages.

The San Francisco Early Music Society's 2013-14 season opens this weekend, beginning tonight, October 11, and continuing through the 13th, 2013 with local trio OSTRAKA (Josh Lee, viola da gamba; John Lenti, lute; David Walker, baroque guitar). Founded in 2005 by viol virtuoso Lee, Ostraka was a finalist in Early Music America's 2012 Baroque Performance Competition. Ostraka performs a program titled Leaving Parnassus, tracing the rise and fall of the outrageous and refined French baroque style and its struggle against the fashionable forces of italianismethrough the works of Lully, de Visee, Caix d'Hervelois, Boismortier and Forqueray. The concert promises to be a tour de force of virtuosic solo and ensemble works for bass viol, theorbo and baroque guitar.
