Camp Rock, The Musical could easily be dismissed as so much homogenized, Disneyfied, teenaged pablum - but, in reality, it's much more than that. It's a fast-moving, engaging love story set to music and is much more akin to all those Judy Garland/Mickey Rooney 'let's put on a show!' movies than you might expect.

A favorite star from 'High School Musical' will be joined by six multitalented performers in a new music and dance-driven comedy pilot, 'Madison High' (working title). The series pilot introduces a troupe of theater students led by the melodramatic drama teacher Ms. Darbus, a beloved character from the cultural sensation 'High School Musical.' Production on the pilot begins in March in consideration for a Disney Channel series to premiere in early 2012.

Disney Theatrical Productions is releasing the rights to CAMP ROCK: THE MUSICAL, a stage adaptation of the 2008 and 2010 "CAMP ROCK" Disney Channel Original Movies, for licensing by schools and amateur theatre groups. CAMP ROCK: THE MUSICAL features songs from both movies and a story based on CAMP ROCK 2: THE FINAL JAM. The show is orchestrated for a rock band combo, which gives an opportunity for musicians and performers to come together. The rights to perform CAMP ROCK: THE MUSICAL can be obtained through Disney's exclusive licensing partner, Music Theatre International (MTI). The theatrical version is a seventy-minute musical that focuses on the storyline of the sequel and features over a dozen hit songs from both popular musical movies.

Disney Theatrical Productions (DTP), the division responsible for such smash Broadway hits as THE LION KING, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and MARY POPPINS, will debut CAMP ROCK: THE MUSICAL, a stage adaptation of the CAMP ROCK 2008 and 2010 Disney Channel Original Movies with songs from both movies and a story based on CAMP ROCK 2: THE FINAL JAM. The show will be available for licensing in November 2010 through Disney's exclusive licensing partner, Music Theatre International (MTI). Production has begun on 'Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure,' a Disney Channel Original Movie directed by Emmy Award-winning director Michael Lembeck ('Tooth Fairy,' 'Santa Clause 2' and 'Santa Clause 3.'). Ashley Tisdale stars as the scene-stealing drama queen Sharpay Evans in the role she made so popular in the 'High School Musical' TV movies and feature film. 'Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure' is scheduled to premiere in 2011 on Disney Channel.

Deadline.com has reported that Disney is beginning production on 'Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure,' a spin-off from the popular 'High School Musical.' According to the report, the film deals with Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale), who attempts to make it on Broadway; however, her dog gets a job before she does.

The Society for Theatre Research (STR) are pleased to continue their exciting Lecture Programme later this month, which includes free events through to May 2010 all open to the public. Programme highlights include Gregory Doran (Associate Director, Royal Shakespeare Company) discussing directing Shakespeare; award-winning playwright and actor Kwame Kwei-Armah discussing contemporary Black British drama and the Playwright's Relationship to Heritage, Representation and Legacy; and the annual address, which will this year be given by former Evening Standard theatre critic and playwright Nicholas de Jongh.
