51st Chicago International Film Festival to Honor Howard Shore

The 51st Chicago International Film Festival, presented by Cinema/Chicago, will honor acclaimed composer and orchestrator Howard Shore in recognition of his contributions to film and television with a tribute and award ceremony on Sunday, October 18, 2015. Howard Shore is one of the most versatile, talented, and respected composers and music conductors working today. He has collaborated with such prominent directors as Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Demme, Tim Burton, David Fincher, Arnaud Desplechin, and David Cronenberg, among numerous others. Shore's work on Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy was recognized with three Academy Awards, two Golden Globes and many other honors.

On Sunday, May 10, as part of Horror Mother's Day, the Museum will show Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, starring Anthony Perkins as the ultimate momma's boy; Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby, with Mia Farrow as an Upper West Side mother-to-be caught up in a sinister cult; and David Cronenberg's The Brood (in a new 35mm print), a terrifying psychological thriller driven by a mother's rage.

Lincoln Center to Present THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy in Concert, April 2015

For the first time in North America, the complete film trilogy The Lord of the Rings will be presented live, in concert, at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, New York, April 8-12, 2015. Beneath a giant screen, the Academy Award-winning scores by Howard Shore will be performed by 250 musicians, on stage, including symphony orchestra, chorus and soloists, in two trilogies, Wednesday-Friday, April 8-10, and Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12. The production is created by CAMI Music, and follows acclaimed concert presentations of the first two films of The Lord of the Rings trilogy at Radio City Music Hall (2009 and 2010).

he Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the continuation of a summer tradition of showcasing great genre classics to beat the heat. Following the tradition of last summer's popular "Midnight Movies" series, each film in the new "Freaky Friday" series will kick off the weekend at 11pm and have the same weekly blend of mind-melting, gross-out horror as well as some rarely screened classic cult favorites in glorious 35mm, curated by Film Society programmer and Film Comment Editor Gavin Smith.
