Two of Buffalo's cultural icons are joining forces to celebrate those who have served our country.

Monday, October 20 Day off. I had been hearing about "The Strip" ever since I arrived so Deanne Lorette aka Sarah Bernhardt and I trundled off to have lunch there. The surprise is that it's not some Vegas area as you might imagine from the name. It's a very down home neighborhood with a lot of local produce and outside markets. One set of stalls looked like something you might have found in Omaha in the 1950's. Surprising.

The hit 'For The Record' series presents a two-month limited engagement of their critically-acclaimed evening inspired by the films of Baz Luhrmann at West Hollywood's DBA (www.dbahollywood.com). 'For The Record: Baz Luhrmann' will run thru November 23 and will offer audiences an elevated and completely reimagined production of the show that Angelinos have fallen in love with time and time again. Pittsburgh Public Theater's 40th anniversary Season of Legends continues with the world premiere of L'Hotel, written by Broadway veteran Ed Dixon and directed by The Public's Producing Artistic Director, Ted Pappas. A five-star review and a 'pick of the month' designation from BBC Music Magazine is the latest international accolade for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's recording of Reinhold Gliere's Symphony No. 3, 'Il'ya Muromets,' released on the Naxos label in February.

After more than three years in Los Feliz, the live musicimmersive concert experience "For The Record" will move to a larger home in West Hollywood, DBA (www.dbahollywood.com). Beginning March 27, the hit series will make their debut in this new, next level performance space that is hosting the most vital and relevant live music, DJ's, performance art, spoken word and theatrical events. "For The Record: Tarantino" at DBA will offer audiences an elevated and completely reimagined production of the show that inspired the series as a whole. The show will run every Thursday - Sunday at 8:00 p.m with tickets ranging from $35 - $55, and can be purchased at DBAHollywood.com. For the first time, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will join in the festivities at the annual Martin Luther King Celebration Program at Kleinhans Music Hall at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19. The celebration is free of charge.

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Society, Inc. today announced audited results for the 2012-13 fiscal year (September 1, 2012 - August 31, 2013).

For the Record: Baz Luhrmann in Concert is the brainchild of Christopher Lloyd Bratten (musical director) and Shane Scheel (producer) who have previously produced concerts incorporating the music from the films of the Coen Brothers and also John Hughes and Quentin Tarantino, among others. The Luhrmann show is on its third extension - now through January - and it is easy to see why. The entire Rockwell Table and Stage is converted into a grande theatrical experience like no other, with playing areas for the 9 singers/actors in the round...complete 360 degree surround, including playing areas at and around the bar. Elevated stages are used, so there is little or no problem seeing the performers except if you are seated directly behind a pillar, offering partial obstruction.

Students from New York City's Mannes College The New School for Music will have a rare opportunity to gain hands-on conducting experience this season, thanks to a unique collaboration between the college and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. This is the second year of the collaboration.

This summer's most spectacular Hollywood blockbuster will not be found in the movie theater this year but rather at Rockwell: Table & Stage with For The Record: Zemeckis. Over the past two years the 'For The Record' series has brought the movies to life as never seen before in a stunning 360-degree live theatrical concert experience. For The Record: Zemeckis officially opened Friday, May 31, 2013. Weekly performances are Thursday -Sunday at 8:30PM and will run through Saturday, July 20. On Saturday March 16, 2013 The Irish Tenors performed at The State Theatre in New Brunswick, NJ (www.statetheatrenj.org) and Broadwayworld.com was there for the show.
