BWW Reviews: ONCE Channels the Music and Romance of the Emerald Isle
by Amanda Etchison - Jun 10, 2015

Featuring a stage decorated with an upright piano, mismatched chairs and colorful wooden tables, the Palace Theatre's crystal-draped ceilings faded away to become a cozy pub straight off the streets of Dublin, Ireland, during the touring production of 'Once,' which opened in Columbus on June 9.

BWW Reviews: Is ONCE Enough?
by Christine Swerczek - May 14, 2015

ONCE is not enough. You must see it as many times as possible, because it is unique.  It is indefinable.  It is a bittersweet love story of longing, and it will leave you wanting more.

BWW Reviews: ONCE at Broadway San Jose This Month
by Linda Hodges and Nick Hodges - Apr 23, 2015

Hodges & Hodges couldn't wait to see this eight time Tony award winning show.

BWW Reviews: ONCE Awes in Sacramento
by Harmony Wheeler - Apr 16, 2015

Perhaps the show's title comes from its surprisingly magical "once upon a time" storytelling. Or maybe it refers to its short timeframe wrapped around a once in a lifetime crossing of paths. But one thing is for certain, the Tony Award winner for Best Musical is all at once appealing. Even when lead singer Stuart Ward blurs his indecipherable lyrics together, the folk-style music masterfully conveys every emotion felt on stage. And that's what Once is all about: the power of music to communicate, connect and heal.

BWW Reviews: ONCE at Kingsbury Hall
by Blair Howell - Apr 9, 2015

'Once' is not a boy-and-girl-fall-in-love musical. There is a love story between boy, here named Guy, and a girl, named Girl, but their love never comes to fruition.

BWW Reviews: ONCE Offers Bittersweet Love Story at Saenger

BWW Interviews: Tony Award Winning Actor Scott Waara from the National Tour of ONCE
by Heidi Scheuermann - Mar 17, 2015

So here's the thing… The first time I heard of/saw ONCE was back in college. A group of friends were squishing into a tiny living room in an on-campus apartment (I think there were probably 10-15 of us), and one of the crew decided we were going to watch this totally awesome movie called 'Once.' So we squished, we sat, we watched. I remember thinking, 'Ok, the movie was cute, but man… the music!' There's no mistaking the magic that is Glen Hansard's and Marketa Irglova's music, including their incredibly beautiful, Academy Award Winning song 'Falling Slowly.'

BWW Reviews: ONCE is an One of a Kind Theatre Experience at the Fisher Theatre
by Katie Laban - Feb 12, 2015

Once is an extraordinary theatre show. It is an experience that is unlike any other to watch, hear, feel, and live through, as it is unique from beginning to end. The talented actors sing and speak like in typical theatre experience, but in Once, they also are the band and play all the instruments on stage during the entire performance.

Oh my! It's been a hell of a year for the Seattle Theatre scene and I can say we've been quite fortunate to see the incredible shows we have. So many amazing shows in fact that picking just a few stand outs (let alone a "best") is a near impossibility. But I have searched the deep dark recesses of my memory to find the shows and performances that really stood out and stuck with me beyond the evening and throughout the year. And so, without further ado, I'm thrilled to present the BWW 2014 Seattle Critic's Choice Awards (or Jay's Picks). Let the awesomeness flow!
