BWW Review: Epic Theatre Rules the Yard with THESE RUTHLESS BITCHES
by Andria Tieman
- Sep 8, 2015
Epic Theatre kicks off their page to stage season with a delightfully catty update to Clare Boothe Luce classic The Women retitled THESE RUTHLESS BITCHES. All of the original themes are still present: loyalty to men, the notion of the Ideal Woman, but everything is slightly sideways in that this re-telling takes place in a Women's Prison. Comparisons to Orange is the New Black are obvious and easy to make, but telling the story of upper class women in a prison rather than a parlor works surprisingly well. Instead of being captive by the rules of society, which may not ring as true for the audience today, these women are literally captive by the legal system and have merely transferred their social hierarchies and rules to a more drab environment.

Epic Theatre Company begins its 2015 - 2016 "Back to Basics" Season with a world premiere satire-These Ruthless Bitches, inspired by The Women by Clare Boothe Luce. These Ruthless Bitches takes the story of high-class society ladies backstabbing and betraying each other over brunch and sets it in a women's prison where the claws are sharper and the battles are bloodier, but all with class and sophistication, of course.

BWW Reviews: Touching and Hilarious ANGELS IN AMERICA: PERESTROIKA at Epic
by David De Almo
- Jun 16, 2014
Go see 'Angels in America: Perestroika' at Epic Theatre Company. There isn't a more straightforward way to say it. The possibly lesser known 2nd Half of Tony Kushner's Epic play about the AIDS epidemic in 1980's New York is playing currently at Epic's larger space at 82 Rolfe Square in Cranston, and it's superlative. It's shocking how funny Kushner can make the citizens of his New York, without making it seem trite or irreverent.
