One of Broadway's legendary romantic musicals, the Pulitzer Prize-winning SOUTH PACIFIC takes the stage at The Marriott Theatre previewing April 3, opening April 10 and running through June 2 at 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. Featuring music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Hammerstein and Joshua Logan, the original 1949 Broadway production won ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the 2008 Broadway revival won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival. Based on James Michener's Tales of the South Pacific, this all-new production of SOUTH PACIFIC will be directed by David H. Bell with choreography by Matt Raftery.

Midwest New Musicals continues Words and Music, its concert reading series of original musicals, with WANTING MISS JULIE, book by John Sparks, lyrics by Patricia Zehentmayr and music by Jake Anthony, tonight, November 19, at 7:30 PM at the Light Opera Works Second Stage at 1420 Maple (at Lake) in Evanston. Nominations for the Chicago-based Non-Equity Jeff Awards were announced today; Theo Ubique leads with 14 nominations

The Jeff Awards today announced 124 nominations in 25 categories for Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2011, and March 31, 2012. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff Awards judges covered opening nights of 154 productions offered by 71 Non-Equity producing organizations. The judges recommended 64 of those shows, making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Thirty-two theatre companies received nominations.

The Paramount Theater is presenting the nostalgic jukebox revue Route 66 for a nine-week run, four shows a week, in the intimate, 216-seat Copley Theater. Tickets are on sale now for Paramount's production of Roger Bean's Route 66, a jukebox comedy about a gang of rowdy Chicago service station attendants who take an imaginary Chicago to L.A. road trip singing tunes by Willie Nelson, Woody Guthrie, Roger Miller and The Beach Boys, just to name a few. The Paramount Theater presents the nostalgic jukebox revue Route 66 for a nine-week run, four shows a week, in the intimate, 216-seat Copley Theater right across the street.

The scenic and historic town of Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin, is about a two hour drive from Chicago's northwest suburbs. I'm glad to report that this tiny farm and tourist town is now the unlikely home of TWO Equity dinner theaters, as the Central Coast Restaurant has entered the market with Theater at the Central Coast.
