For two weeks only, The Coterie will present the return special engagement of Tell-Tale Electric Poe, a unique theatrical event for families with ages 10 and older that features R.H. Wilhoit delivering two of Edgar Allan Poe's best-known works with musical underscoring by guitarist Rex Hobart. Adapted and directed by Coterie producing artistic director, Jeff Church, Tell-Tale Electric Poe will be performed live on The Coterie’s mainstage located in Crown Center, October 20-October 30, 2022.

AKEELAH AND THE BEE written by Cheryl West is based on the award-winning film starring Laurence Fishburne with a screenplay by Doug Atchison.

Atlantic for Kids has announced casting for the world premiere of Hearts Strings, written by Lee Cataluna and directed by Kat Yen. Performances will begin on Saturday, October 1st at Atlantic Theater Company’s Linda Gross Theater.

Adapted from the Lewis Carroll classic story the musical features an original score with book, music, and lyrics by J. Quinton Johnson and Julia Riew. Brianna Woods directs, with musical direction by Delano Mendoza, and choreography by Marc Wayne.

This summer, The Coterie will produce the world premiere of the new family musical, Alice’s Wonderland, adapted from Lewis Carroll’s classic story and featuring an original score with book, music and lyrics by J. Quinton Johnson and Julia Riew -- based on a treatment by Linda Chichester and David Coffman.

This spring, The Coterie returns to indoor performances with the charming family musical, Pete the Cat, based on the best-selling book series by Kimberly and James Dean. Transforming the fabulous blue feline from the book to the stage, Pete the Cat brings the ever-adventurous but always mellow, Pete, to life on stage with toe-tapping, pop-inspired tunes featuring book & lyrics by Sarah Hammond and music by Will Aronson. Directed by Heidi Van with musical direction by Anthony T. Edwards and choreography by Marc Wayne, Pete the Cat will be performed live on The Coterie’s mainstage located in Crown Center, April 1-May 22, 2022.

The Coterie Theatre made a big splash with the opening of its world premiere of THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES on November 4th at The Coterie Theatre located in Crown Center in Kansas City, MO. The new version of THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES has never been seen before and is adapted from the animated series, which has entertained children for the last 17 years. Though entertaining for younger audiences I found the musical to be tedious and the constant screaming to be annoying. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I had grown up during the SpongeBob era.

Goosebumps The Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium (Original Studio Cast Recording) has been released in streaming and digital formats today Friday, October 29, just in time for Halloween. The show is based on the book by R.L. Stine published by Scholastic Inc., and features music and lyrics by Danny Abosch and book and lyrics by John Maclay.

Adapted from the beloved animated series, The SpongeBob Musical for Young Audiences is a brand new, high-energy version of the Broadway hit featuring a fun, pop-infused musical score written by some of the biggest names in Top 40 music. Performed live on The Coterie's mainstage located in Crown Center, The SpongeBob Musical will run November 4, 2021-January 2, 2022.

An early start to the year's creepiest season, Halloween, began on Friday night with the return of The Coterie Theatre’s presentation of ELECTRIC POE 2021. This is the second year of the special engagement at the oldest cemetery in Kansas City, Union Cemetery, and runs through October 31. I described last year's performance as “Haunting”, but the intensity of this year's program makes last year appear like ‘Itsy, Bitsy Spider’.

Currently in rehearsal for its UK tour, Floyd Toulet's widely successful play KNOCK KNOCK is set to be produced by Sour Grapes Productions and will make its US debut at the Vino Theater in Brooklyn, New York. The play will be directed by Joseph Fournier.
