Brown Stub Productions Presents Musical Short Film BEFORE THEY WERE THEM
by Kaitlin Milligan
- Dec 2, 2019
'BEFORE THEY WERE THEM' might only have a four-minute running time, but the project has been a labour-of-love years in the making. The Canadian Music Theatre Project launched at Sheridan College in 2011. Working together that year in the original workshop cast of 'Come From Away' were the now producing-and-directing duo Curtis Brown and Jake Foy. In July of 2015, the CMTP hosted students from the Shanghai Theatre Academy as part of its fostering of Canada's impact on the global music theatre landscape. That summer, the original song 'Before They Were Them' with music and lyrics by Kevin Wong was recorded for the first time with vocals by the soon-to-be Dora-Nominated, Arinea Hermans.

by Jeffrey Walker
- May 7, 2017
The Rooftop Productions effort does well by the Gesner and Schulz creation. Director Ted Ballard keeps things simple, just as Schulz presented his characters in pen and ink. Coupled with identifiably perfect costumes by Mandy Ken, and cartoon inspired, primary-colored set pieces designed by Dale Walsh, Ballard's cast is able to bring to life the wit and wisdom of the Peanuts gang.

Chosen out of several dozen "anti-lynching" plays, most written by African American women between 1916 and 1934, are four one-acts which will be presented through spring of 2017 in the Portland Metro area. In light of recent violent acts against people of color, collaborating professional artists are committed to sharing these plays in ways which elicit greater understanding of yesterday's events relating to today's environment. The intention is to shed light on past atrocities, and to inspire open dialogue about ways in which these historical events affect us today.

Improvised Scene Productions Presents BETTY BROWN FOR PRESIDENT
by Christina Mancuso
- Apr 4, 2016
Improvised Scene Productions has developed a screen story (a.k.a. "treatment") that has gotten great feedback from both within and outside of the Hollywood film community. "Betty Brown for President!" is a comedy like nothing else you've ever read and provides a blueprint for a brilliant satire on American politics. "Betty Brown" imagines that a series of outrageous, yet logical, circumstances conspired to propel the unlikely candidate "Betty Brown" to the presidency 40 years ago, in 1976. This story has been compared favorably to the creations of the Coen and Farelly Brothers by many who have read it.
