by BWW News Desk - Jun 3, 2015

Summer in the South is swathed in heat - as the mercury rises, personalities writhe and drama comes to a boil. Few stories capture the tumult of the region's hot spells as well as Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, and Serenbe is taking the heat of the story to new heights by setting it outside in the elements of a Georgian summer. Scroll down for a sneak peek at the leads!

BWW Reviews: GA Shakespeare's ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS is as Good as a Summer Comedy Gets
by Matt Tamanini - Jul 16, 2014

There has barely been a bad word said about this show since it debuted on Broadway in 2012 (racking up seven Tony nominations), but because I didn't know much about it, I took a while to settle into the comedic rhythm of Georgia Shakespeare's production of ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS. However, once I realized that the show was far more farcical than I at first realized, it became one of the most laugh-out-loud, joyous nights of theatre I have had in years. So, if you go and see this show (which you absolutely should) simply give into the goofiness; you will thank me when you do.

BWW Reviews: GA Shakespeare's AS YOU LIKE IT is a Delightful Shakespearean Cartoon
by Matt Tamanini - Jun 20, 2014

To borrow a phrase from a less-comedic Bard classic, Georgia Shakespeare's AS YOU LIKE is "a hit, a palpable hit." As has come to be expected, Courtney Patterson is exceedingly captivating as Rosalind, the show's female (and male) lead. The Suzi Bass Award winner leads this fantastic ensemble through a marvelously musical take on this story of betrayal, love-at-first-sight, and cross-dressing. With much discussion lately about women in theatre, it was exciting that Georgia Shakespeare chose a show that not only features strong female characters driving the story, but also to include women in central supporting roles that otherwise could have been portrayed by men.

BWW Reviews: METAMORPHOSES Revival Is a Magical Experience at Georgia Shakespeare
by Matthew Allen - Jun 21, 2013

It is always dangerous to form an opinion of a show after seeing only its first preview. So I was a little apprehensive about writing a review after seeing the very first performance of the 2013 incarnation of Georgia Shakespeare's 'Metamorphoses.' Since the initial 2006 run, which was nominated for, and won, more Suzi Bass Awards than any non-musical in history, 'Metamorphoses' has held a special place in the Atlanta theatre consciousness; and I am happy to report that I now fully understand why their patrons were so excited for Georgia Shakespeare to bring back Mary Zimmerman's masterpiece based on the myths of Ovid.

Anyone familiar with the Atlanta theatre scene knows that there is as much talent here as in nearly anywhere else in the country, and this summer, Atlanta's 30+ professional theatre companies are putting that talent to use. While there are countless other great productions going on around the city this summer, BWW Atlanta has narrowed it down to six that will surely leave Hotlanta talking well into the winter months.

BWW Interviews: GA Shakespeare Brings Energy to the Park with MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Like temperatures creeping closer to the 90's and pollen covering all of metro-Atlanta, Georgia Shakespeare's trip to Piedmont Park has become an annual rite of spring. After eight years as 'Shake at the Lake', Georgia Shakespeare is readying a remount of last summer's hit comedy 'Much Ado About Nothing' for their second year in front of the Legacy Fountain with 'Shakespeare in the Park.' The show runs May 1st-5th at 7:30pm, with doors opening at 6:00pm.
