Theatre Now New York has announced the casts and creative teams of the 10 short musicals to be presented in its SOUND BITES ELEVEN Festival of 10-Minute Musicals.

Theatre Now New York has selected 10 finalists to be presented in its SOUND BITES ELEVEN Festival of 10-Minute Musicals. The festival will take place on May 6th at 7pm at Merkin Hall at Kaufman Music Center.

The next generation of songwriters is busy working and took a night off to play and sing at The Green Room 42 on February 3rd. A full room of supportive music appreciators heard some new musical theatre-style material based on assignments like 'Imagine Blanche DuBois singing' or 'write a love song without the word 'love.''

In 2023, Out of the Box Theatrics (2022 Drama Desk nominee for Baby) will present staged readings of four new works as part of their annual Building the Box Series. The Series will kick off with THE END OF ALL FLESH, a post-Apocalyptic bluegrass musical by Tony Award winner Greg Kotis (Urinetown). It will be presented March 27 at 1PM and 7PM at TheaterLab.

YELLOW SOUND LABEL will celebrate Baby: New Off-Broadway Cast Recording with a special concert at New York's The Green Room 42 on Monday, February 13 at 7:00 PM. The event features Julia Murney and cast members from the 2021 Off-Broadway production by Out of the Box Theatrics, which was nominated for a 2022 Drama Desk Award for “Outstanding Revival of a Musical.”

The Directors Company will present a reading of INVENTIONS FOR PIANO, a new musical by Joseph Thalken, based on the article Fantasia for Piano by Mark Singer. The private industry reading is being presented Thursday, December 8, 2022 at The Theatre Center.

It doesn’t help that director Matthew Dunster plays much of Danny Robins’ script for laughs when it could have been amping up some suspense. It would have been more cohesive and had a bigger impact if it hadn’t played as a comedy for most of its 2-hour run time, though it wouldn’t have been enough to make the story land.
