Gounod's masterpiece of grand French opera, Roméo et Juliette, continues San Diego Opera's 2021-2022 season when it opens on Saturday, March, 26, 2022 for four performances at the San Diego Civic Theatre. Additional performances are March 29, April 1, and 3 (matinee), 2022.

For the past few days, there have been endless articles after Sunday night's season finale of the show as to whether or not HBO would pick up the show for a third season. On Friday night, LGBT activist and The Normal Heart scribe Larry Kramer attended the Tony-nominated Mothers and Sons. The award honors a film professional whose work embodies Stanley Kramer's qualities of social consciousness within their artistry while taking risks to create and influence a social transformation. The Festival, spanning five days of films, parties and celebrity attendees will be held today, Sept. 18-22, 2013 on the famed Catalina Island. Stone will received the award during a ceremony on the Island, today, Sept. 18, 2013.

A new exhibition at the New-York Historical Society, Children With AIDS: Spirit and Memory, will feature twenty powerful black and white photographs by noted photographer and social realist Claire Yaffa from her collection "The Changing Face of Children with AIDS." Installed in the Civil Rights Gallery from June 7 through September 15, 2013, the mid- to large-format photographs, taken from 1990-2000, reveal heartbreaking tales of children afflicted with HIV and AIDS.

It is very difficult to take a strong position in the gay world without being, at the least, misunderstood, and at the most extreme, vilified mercilessly. I suppose it's like this in the straight world as well. Perhaps I shouldn't bitch so when I'm taken to such extremes as a recent quote from me in The New York Times has provoked. I have always maintained fervently that in our world, in any world, you have to speak loudly and boldly to be heard at all. And my loud voice, which I cherish and try to use as much as I can to aid causes and beliefs I support, is one I wish everyone else also possessed and used. God, whoever made us, gave us voices to use, to speak up with. So I shouldn't complain when my anger comes back to hit me in the face. Usually I don't. Usually I'm pleased when my words provoke a usually passive population into getting off their asses and, well, using their own voice.
