(See ADDITIONAL FACTS below for details) The story centers around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge--not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes "his kind and his powerful heart." Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant, in a story that makes you laugh and cry.
Teen Stage Ensemble's GODSPELL Opens at Seacoast Rep Tonight

The Teen Stage Ensemble at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre presents Godspell tonight, May 17th and Saturday May 18th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday May 19th at 2 p.m.

The heart of the show Godspell is community--a group of people joining together, learning and growing together. This is also the heart of the Teen Stage Ensemble (TSE). Director Monique Peaslee Foote, says the show was originally conceived by John Michael-Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz in 1971 as a project for their senior thesis at Carnegie Melon University. Because it was a thesis for the theater (perhaps their opportunity to show their colleagues all they had learned) it is full of all kinds of wonderful acting/theater genres from vaudeville to puppetry to mime to cabaret.

This show gives students an opportunity to stretch themselves; and to be exposed to parts of theater and theater history that they may not yet have encountered. The show is structured as a series of parables essentially stand-alone sketches that allow us to give the entire 24-person cast an opportunity to play multiple roles. And the roles are fun; from kings to prodigal sons to seedlings to the animals of Noah's Ark. It's all about flexing the imagination and encouraging the actors to take risks and try new things.

This event would not be possible without the generous support of the following sponsors Optima Bank and Trust and Piscataqua Savings Bank. To purchase Tickets to Godspell, call the box office at (603) 433-4472 or visit the box office at 125 Bow Street, Portsmouth, NH. Tickets also may be purchased online at www.seacoastrep.org.

Seacoast Rep's Teen Stage Ensemble (TSE) was founded in 2010 and was created as a resource to offer dedicated youth the opportunity to learn more in-depth the craft of acting and hone their musical theater skills. The age range is 13 to 18 and students undergo a serious audition process to be admitted to the program.

Seacoast Repertory Theatre is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization. Its mission is to reflect and enhance the community through the shared experience of live theatre. Our productions and outreach programs are inclusive and accessible - empowering and inspiring the imagination of both audience and artist. By attending the Silver Celebration and participating in our auction, you will help to keep Rep ticket prices affordable, maintain the quality of our shows, keep our outreach programs vibrant, and our doors open to helping out fellow non-profit organizations.

From the hit motion pictures, television series, and international stage success, FAME is nothing short of a global phenomenon. Set during the last years of New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts on 46th Street (1980-1984), FAME JR. is the bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work. With candor, humor and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today. With its topical subject manner, multi-ethnic cast of actors, singers, dancers and instrumentalists and high-energy, contemporary pop score (which includes the hit title song), FAME JR. is an ideal musical for young performers.

Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy - considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy - soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends in the canon: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight "mission doll," out to reform the evildoers of Time Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiance, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game.Everything works out in the end, thanks to the machinations of Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling's hilarious, fast-paced book and Frank Loesser's bright, brassy, immortal score, which takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City. Funny and romantic, GUYS AND DOLLS is ideal for audiences and performers of any age.

Broadway's greatest farce is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written. A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000 year old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville.A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM is a non-stop laugh-fest in which Pseudolus, a crafty slave, struggles to win the hand of a beautiful but slow-witted courtesan named Philia, for his young master, Hero, in exchange for freedom. The plot twists and turns with cases of mistaken identity, slamming doors, and a showgirl or two. This unforgettable, hysterical musical allows a terrific ensemble of comedic actors to shine--"something for everyone, a comedy tonight!"

Teen Stage Ensemble's GODSPELL to Open at Seacoast Rep, 5/17

The Teen Stage Ensemble at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre presents Godspell on Friday May 17th and Saturday May 18th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday May 19th at 2 p.m.

Winner of the Tony "Triple Crown" for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, AVENUE Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart. AVENUE Q SCHOOL EDITION is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it's clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.Because the original AVENUE Q has some content elements that have previously made it a difficult choice for some high school productions, MTI has worked with the AVENUE Q authors to create an adaptation that maintains the dramatic intention and integrity of the piece, while editing it to make it more appropriate for high school audiences and performers.
