Suddenly, Sara's bleak garret is mysteriously transformed by a secret benefactor. When Sara finally learns who has cared for her, Miss Minchin gets her just reward. Sara's final song tells it all, "This Is Just the Way It Ends in Books!"

Fountain Hills Youth Theater Opens ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, 6/7

Fountain Hills Youth Theater is proud to announce the closing production of their 10th anniversary season, the musical romp 'Once Upon a Mattress'. If you thought you knew the story of 'The Princess and The Pea,' you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that Lady Larken's love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste? Or that, in fact, it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again.

'Once Upon a Mattress' is directed by the award-winning Fountain Hills Youth Theater Artistic Director, Ross Collins, produced by Anne Kelleher, with Jay Melberg as the musical director, and Patrick Russo as choreographer.

The Phoenix Symphony Announces 2013-14 Season

The Phoenix Symphony announces their 2013/14 season, which promises to bring some of the biggest music and names of the orchestral world to Symphony Hall and beyond. This season marks The Phoenix Symphony's 66th anniversary since its founding in 1947. The Phoenix Symphony also continues its search for a Music Director, bringing in the best and brightest of the orchestral world to Arizona.

"This is a season we are particularly proud to present to Arizona," said Jim Ward, President & CEO of The Phoenix Symphony. "We have an outstanding roster of brilliant guest artists and conductors who are coming together to help us explore powerful musical experiences, making the Symphony the hottest ticket in town."

The 2013/14 Season opens with Beethoven's world-famous Ninth Symphony, which is part of the twelve-concert Classics Series. Other highlights include an expanded and exciting ten-concert Pops series, seven Coffee Classics performances, a five-concert Family Series and four Scottsdale concerts. The season will also feature a wide variety of elegant and unique salon-style fundraising events.

The Symphony's US Airways Classics Series features a line-up of superstar repertoire and guest artists. The Phoenix Symphony combines a love of reading with a passion for music in this series with concerts based on popular and entertaining children's books. Tickets for Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts' new 2013-14 season will go on sale to the public on Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m. Among the offerings are 75 awe-inspiring live performances of dance, music, theater, comedy and more. Additional events will be announced at a later date.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Superstar Natalie Cole will headline the annual ARTrageous Benefit Gala on Dec. 7. Singer-songwriters Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell will perform duets from their acclaimed collaborative album on Sept. 26. The folk-rock duo Indigo Girls will appear with The Phoenix Symphony on Oct. 11-12. Celebrated flutists Sir James Galway and Lady Jeanne Galway will accompany the Irish Chamber Orchestra on Nov. 9. Captain Mark Kelly and Gabrielle Giffords will presentEndeavor to Succeed on Nov. 22 as a fundraiser for the Brain Injury Alliance of Arizona. Legendary songstress Roberta Flack will give an intimate concert on Feb. 19. Virtuoso guitarists Sharon Isbin, Stanley Jordan and Romero Lubambo will share the stage in Guitar Passions on Feb. 27. Pianist and conductor Peter Nerowill perform The Gershwin Project on March 15.

BROADWAY STARS
Three of Broadway's brightest stars will perform music from the Great American Songbook, including Brian Stokes Mitchell with The Phoenix Symphony on Jan. 17-18, Betty Buckley on Feb. 1 and Patti LuPone who will take audiences on a musical journey in Far Away Places on March 21.

FOLK AND COUNTRY MUSIC
In addition to performances by Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell and the Indigo Girls, the Center's 2013-14 season will feature a bluegrass concert by Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby with Kentucky Thunder on Oct. 19, a rare acoustic show by the quartet Lonestar on Feb. 6 and a concert under the stars by singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter with The Phoenix Symphony on April 4.

CLASSICAL MUSIC
The Virginia G. Piper Concert Series will feature four concerts by leading classical musicians, including pianist Richard Goode on Jan. 26, the Brazilian youth symphony Bahia Orchestra Project with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet on Feb. 8, the newest Van Cliburn Gold Medalist on Feb. 16 and pianist Stephen Houghon April 6. Celebrating the 35th-anniversary season of Keyboard Conversations in Scottsdale, pianist Jeffrey Siegel will perform four concerts with commentary:Popular Piano Classics on Dec. 3, Glorious Beethoven on Jan. 14, Franz Schubert: On Wings of Song on Feb. 18, and Mistresses and Masterpieces onMarch 25. Cellist Yehuda Hanani will return for two Close Encounters with Music concerts: Beethoven and Brahms: Anatomy of a Melody on Jan. 29 and An Evening with Eliot Fisk: Old, New, Borrowed and Blues on Feb. 26.

JAZZ
Jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis and his Electric Band will perform on Nov. 23. The World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will return for two concerts on March 1. Innovator Bobby McFerrin will share music from his spirityouall album on April 26.

WORLD MUSIC
A dozen of Ireland's finest dancers and musicians will perform Celtic Nights: The Emigrants Bridge on Feb. 7. The thundering Japanese taiko drumming ensembleTAO will return with its newest show, Phoenix Rising, on Feb. 20-21. South Africa's Soweto Gospel Choir will inspire audiences with their heartfelt music on April 19.

DISCOVERY SERIES
The 2013-14 Discovery Series will explore the arts of Brazil. Platinum-selling jazz-pop legend Sergio Mendes will headline La Gran Fiesta on Nov. 1. Balé Folclórico da Bahia will bring its traditional Brazilian capoeira and samba to Scottsdale on Nov. 16. France's Compagnie Käfig will showcase stunning Brazilian dance, hip-hop and acrobatics in Correria Agwa on Jan. 10-11. Jazz vocalist Maria Rita will sing on Jan. 31. Pop sensation Bebel Gilberto will perform a concert under the stars on April 5.

COMEDY AND SATIRE
Best-selling author and A Prairie Home Companion host Garrison Keillor will share more stories of Lake Wobegon on Oct. 16. Award-winning performer Jason Alexander will present two shows of comedy and music on Oct. 26. Comedian and Saturday Night Live alum Colin Quinn will perform on Jan. 25.

DANCE
The Valley's premier venue for contemporary dance, the Center will present the thrilling acrobats of Diavolo Dance Theater on Nov. 7-8, the cutting-edge Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet on Jan. 30, the pioneering Paul Taylor Dance Company on Feb. 13-14, gravity-defying Pilobolus on March 28-29 and the acclaimedStephen Petronio Company performing its new dance Like Lazarus Did on April 25.

THEATER
Improv stars will create a two-act musical on the spot in Broadway's Next H!t Musical on Nov. 15. D.C.'s sharpest political comedians, The Capitol Steps will return for their annual Thanksgiving weekend visit on Nov. 29-30. L.A. Theatre Works will present the American radio drama The Graduate on Feb. 28. Actress Patti Hannon will star in Sister's Easter Catechism: Will My Bunny Go to Heaven?, the newest sequel to the sinfully funny Late Nite Catechism series, on April 15-27.

HOLIDAY CONCERTS
The vocal sensation Take 6 will perform Christmas classics in The Most Wonderful Time of the Year on Dec. 13. The witty virtuoso brass quintet Canadian Brasswill celebrate the season with a holiday concert on Dec. 21.

CRAZY LOVE Opens at Theatre Artists Studio in Scottsdale Today

Crazy Love by Nina Koch will be directed by Sue Back, with musical director Christy Welty and choreographer Hilary Hirsch at Theatre Artists Studio, today, May 10-26, 2013.

CRAZY LOVE explores the unintended consequences that result for a group of close friends following the unexpected engagement of one of its members. In story and song, the friends explore the ups and downs of love, the highs and lows of romantic relationships, and the sometimes comical, sometimes bittersweet, side effects of being in love.

This year's installment in The Studio's "Words for Music" program features songs of romance by popular composers and lyricists Lerner and Loewe, Frank Loesser, Irving Berlin, Stephen Sondheim, Paul McCartney and many more.

The cast features Sydney Davis, Lynn Edwards, Cynthia Elek, Carolyn Folks, Warren Krompf, Alex Oliver and Jennifer Statler.

The Theatre Artists Studio is located at 4848 E. Cactus Rd, #406, Scottsdale, AZ. The show runs Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; Sundays at 2:00 pm. Times: May 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 & 25 at 7:30 p.m.; May 12, 19 & 26 at 2:00 p.m.

HANSEL AND GRETEL Opens Tonight at Theater Works

Theater Works - Peoria Center for the Performing Arts Resident Youth Theatre Company presents the play Hansel and Gretel, opening tonight, May 10, 2013.

Hansel and Gretel is a classic German fairy tale as imagined by The Brothers Grimm. It is the story of a poor, young brother and sister who are abandoned by their father deep in a forest. Lost and hungry, they happen upon a lovely cottage constructed of cake and candy. Little do they know it belongs to a nasty witch who uses it to lure children so she can fatten them up and eat them! The siblings only hope of survival is to find a way to outwit the witch and escape her evil clutches.

Theater Works - YouthWorks' Hansel and Gretel, written by Vera Morris, will be directed by Brenda Goodenberger. The show will play May 10 - 26, 2013.

"RUMPELSTILTSKIN": A funny version of the classic story about the strange little fellow with the hard-to-guess name and the miller's daughter who must spin straw into gold.
