Spotlight Theatre Company and Firehouse Theatre Company Open SYLVIA Tomorrow

Spotlight Theatre Company and Firehouse Theatre Company join forces to co-present "Sylvia" opening May 25 and running through June 29, 2013. Performances are Friday/Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 Adult/ $18 for Students/Seniors. Group rates are available. Performances are held at the John Hand Theatre, 7653 E. 1st Place, Denver.

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg's career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate's career as a public-school English teacher is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park-or that has found him- bearing only the name "Sylvia" on her name tag. A street-smart mutt, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn't understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy, and a series of hilarious and touching complications leads us to the conclusion... Rated "PG"

The cast for "Sylvia" consists of Sara Metz (Sylvia), Andy Anderson (Greg), Molly Killoran (Kate) and Emma Messenger (Tom/Phyllis/Leslie).

A.R. Gurney was born in Buffalo, New York. A graduate of St. Paul's School (Concord, New Hampshire), Gurney attendEd Williams College and The Yale School of Drama, after which he began teaching Humanities at MIT. He began writing plays such as Scenes from American Life, Childrenand The Middle Ages, while at MIT, but it was his great success with The Dining Room that allowed him to write full-time. Since The Dining Room, Gurney has written a number of plays, most of them concerning WASPs of the American northeast. While at Yale, Gurney also wrote the musical:Love in Buffalo. This was the first musical ever produced at the Yale School of Drama.

Gurney has also appeared in several of his plays including The Dining Room and most notably Love Letters. In 2006, Gurney was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In 2007, he received the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award as a master American dramatist. Additionally, Gurney has written several novels, including: The Snow Ball, The Gospel According to Joe andEntertaining Strangers.

Vintage Theatre Productions Remounts RFK, Beginning 5/31

RFK - A Portrait of Robert Kennedy was a run-away hit for Vintage Theatre Productions in January of this year, and overwhelming demand required that the show extend through February.

This critically acclaimed show now returns for a four-week run at the Aurora Fox Arts Center.

This tour-de-force one-man show breathes new life into the back-story of the Kennedy family. RFK creates a very human portrait of a politician and revisits some of the darker moments in U.S. History. Author Jack Holmes expands the well-known facts of a politician's life into a stirring metaphor for the struggle to believe in our government and our leaders.

"RFK - A Portrait of Robert Kennedy," starring James O'Hagan Murphy, returns May 31 through June 23 in the Studio Theatre at the Aurora Fox Arts Center, 9900 E. Colfax Ave., Aurora 80010.

The Music Hall is well into its final season, our final performance will be December 31, 2013. For the past twenty-five years, we have been providing quality entertainment for the entire family. The Music Hall Children's Theatre opened twenty-two years ago with a mission to bring laughter and fun to the theatre experience for children. Mission accomplished! In every bit of action on stage, every bit of interaction with the audience (before, during and after the show), this award-winning theatre truly brings the audience into the story.

The Music Hall's performers treat our younger guests to interactive entertainment each Saturday at 1:30 (& 3:00 in November & December), with a fun-packed hour of original plays based on favorite fairy tales, classic stories and original tales. Children from the audience are called on stage to help with each performance. Each play is written to include as many children as possible. Flash photography is allowed, so bring your camera to capture those special moments on stage.

Narrated by Indian "Chief" Bromden (Sam Gilstrap), this story focuses on the antics of gleefully rebellious Randle P. McMurphy (Scott Bellot). McMurphy is transferred from a prison work farm to the hospital, thinking it will be an easy way to serve out his sentence. He has a fine time hustling the patients, until he realizes that he is more than a diversion for them; he gives them the lives they are too afraid to live for themselves.McMurphy also presents a discipline problem and challenge to the authority of buttoned-up, middle-aged Nurse Ratched (Jada Roberts*), who exercises near-total power over those in her care, including her subordinates.

Dale Wasserman's stage adaptation made its Broadway preview on November 12, 1963, its premiere on November 13, and ran until January 25, 1964 for a total of one preview and 82 performances. Since then, the play has had two revivals: first off-Broadway in 1971, with Danny DeVito as Martini, then as a Broadway production in 2001 with Gary Sinise as McMurphy for which it won a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. A film version released in 1975 was based on the novel, but not on the play.

A parody of the great Agatha Christie thrillers of the 1940's, And Then There Was Nun is a vampy cross-dressing cocktail of humor and "whodunit" as actors emulate your favorite movie stars of the past. Who committed murder? Was it Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Katherine Hepburn, Judy Garland or Marilyn Monroe?

Take one foreboding mansion on a secluded island, throw in ten whacked-out members of The Holy Order of the Sisters of San Andreas, stir in their unseen and mysterious leader, add an assortment of the sharpest tongues this side of Hollywood and Vine; then infuse with a healthy dose of some of the most famous lines in cinema (slightly warped). HAIR Opens Tonight at Town Hall Arts Center

Start the summer of 2013 off right! You don't want to miss Hair at Town Hall Arts Center with a live band lead by Town Hall favorite Donna K. Debreceni (2012 Henry Award winner for Outstanding Musical Direction for The Who's Tommy) on keyboards. Keeping her company are Mitch Jervis (PHAMALY & Magic Moments) on guitars, Scott Alan Smith (ONSOMBLEY) on bass/guitars, and Larry Ziehl (Lannie Garrett and The Patsy Decline Show) on drums.

HAIR puts rock music and the culture that went with it on stage. The show has a strong effect on everyone, and acts as a bridge between generations and viewpoints. What looks like incredible chaos is actually organized chaos. Phenomenal musical numbers include Aquarius, Good Morning Starshine, I Believe in Love, Hair, I Got Life, What a Piece of Work Is Man and Hippie Life. This show has a vitality, a timelessness and a meaning that outlives the late 1960's and early 1970's in America.
