Amphibian Stage Productions today announced casting for its third main stage production of the 2013 season, The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) by Adam Long, ReEd Martin, and Austin Tichenor. Luke Longacre, Brandon J. Murphy, and Scott Zenreich will star in this irreverent comedy, running Thursday, July 11 through Sunday, August 11 at Amphibian's theater at 120 S. Main Street. Jay Duffer will direct the production.

Brandon J. Murphy has appeared on Amphibian's stage several times, most recently in the 2012 main stage production of The True History of the Tragic Life and Triumphant Death of Julia Pastrana, the Ugliest Woman in the World and in the 2012 staged reading of The Ding Dongs or What Is the Penalty in Portugal? Director Jay Duffer appeared in Amphibian's 2011 production of Wittenberg, which also starrEd Brandon J. Murphy. Luke Longacre and Scott Zenreich will make their Amphibian debuts in this production.

Additionally, The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) will feature set design by Sean Urbantke, lighting design by Frederick Uebele, sound design by David Lanza, and costume design by Emilee Kyle.

About the Play

Prepare ye the way for an irreverent roller coaster ride through the Good Book, from fig leaves to final judgment, as three cultural guerrillas tackle the great theological questions. No one is safe, especially the first row, and everything you thought you knew about the most widely read book in history will be turned upside down. Bolts of lightning are headed this way.

The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) will run from Thursday, July 11 through Sunday, August 11 at Amphibian Stage Productions. Thursday, July 11 is a private opening night for Amphibian's Devonian members and press and is available by invitation only. A "pay-what-you-can" invited dress rehearsal will be available on Wednesday, July 10 that is open to the public.

Artes de la Rosa presents the Fort Worth Premiere of the Tony award winning musical, In the Heights. Directed by artistic director Adam Adolfo, the Lin Manuel Miranda musical will run tonight, May 17 - June 9 at The Rose Marine Theatre. He just stared in the QLive! production of Standing On Ceremony at the WaterTower Theatre Out of the Loop Fringe Festival. Lorens Portalatin is most notably remembered to Artes de la Rosa audiences for starring as the precocious Dora The Explorer in Dora's Pirate Adventure and has been seen throughout the region onstage with Theatre Arlington, Jubilee Theatre, DVA Productions, QLive!, Creative Arts Theatre and School, and Artisan Centre Theatre.

Michael Anthony Sylvester makes his ADLR debut having been seen throughout the DFW metroplex including Dallas Theatre Center's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Broadways Liz Mikel and Sydney James Harcourt. Other Regional Credits include Casa Manana productions of Damn Yankees (Starring Richard Kind) The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Starring Ruta Lee), and the World Premiere of Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer. Rashaun Sibley is currently pursuing his B.F.A in Theatre with an emphasis in Musical Theatre at Texas Christian University being seen on stage at Casa Mañana and the Trinity Shakespeare Festival.

The production will feature musical direction by Kristin Spires who conducts the 9-piece orchestra featuring the original tour orchestration. Production design includes lighting & projections by Aaron Sanchez, costumes by Marcus Lopez, sound by Jordana Abrenica, and choreography by associate director Elise Lavalle. The musical, according to earlier press notes, tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood - a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. In the Heights is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations. The hip hop infused Latin score features such tunes as "Carnival del Barrio," "Breathe," "No Me Diga" and the title tune, "In the Heights". Rover Dramawerks will present the hilariously quirky comedy Wonder of the World by David Lindsay-Abaire at the Cox Building Playhouse, 1517 H Avenue in Plano. When Cass (played by Rae Harville) discovers a shockingly dirty little secret in her husband Kip's sweater drawer (Kip played by Michael Speck), our heroine has no choice but to flee to the honeymoon capital of the world in a frantic search for the life she thinks she's missed out on. It's a wild ride over Niagara Falls in a barrel of laughs as Cass embarks on a journey of self-discovery that has her crossing paths with a blithely suicidal alcoholic (Laura Warner), a lonely tour-boat captain (Billy Betsill), a pair of bickering private detectives (Alice Montgomery and Chris Hauge), a number of odd waiters (Caroline Dubberly, who also plays numerous other characters), and a strange caper involving a gargantuan jar of peanut butter, all of which pushes her perilously close to the water's edge in this hilarious tragicomedy of marital discord run amok. The Chicago Park District's Theater on the Lake: The Chicago Summer Theater Festival kicks off its 61st anniversary with a USO dance before the first of eight encore presentations from artistically diverse Chicago theater companies June 12 - Aug. 11, 2013. Each production will be performed for five evenings only at the theater at Fullerton Avenue and Lake Shore Drive.

The season opens with The New Colony's The Bear Suit of Happiness (June 12-16) and continues with MPAACT's Blackademics (June 19-23);Manual Cinema's Lula del Ray (June 26-30); Theater Oobleck's There Is a Happiness That Morning Is (July 10-14); Barrel of Monkeys' That's Weird, Grandma (July 17-21); The Den Theatre's The Quality of Life (July 24-28); Jackalope Theatre's Long Way Go Down (July 31 - Aug. 4); and Chicago Physical Theater's The Chi-Town Clown Revue featuring Honeybuns (Aug. 7-11).

This season is selected by co-artistic curators: Halena Kays, artistic director of The Hypocrites, and Joanie Schultz, freelance director of numerous operas and plays.

Theater on the Lake is part of the Chicago Park District's Night Out in the Parks initiative, which features more than 750 citywide cultural and arts activities this summer, making parks a safe haven and a hub of activity.

Second Thought Theater Presents GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES, Beginning 6/6

Second Thought Theatre announced today that the next production in its ninth season is Gruesome Playground Injuries by Rajiv Joseph. Joel Ferrell, Dallas Theater Center Associate Artistic Director, is making his STT directorial debut with this play, a story about life-long friendship and unfortunate injuries.

"I am incredibly thrilled to have Joel Ferrell working with Second Thought for the first time on a piece that's so suited for the intimate, explosive brand of theater Joel is known for," said STT Co-Artistic Director Steven Walters. "His vision for the play is brilliant and audiences should expect a truly visceral theater-going experience withGruesome Playground Injuries. This production will be quintessentially 'Second Thought': simple design, powerful words and exceptional performances."

Jessica Renee Russell and Montgomery Sutton make their STT debut as Kayleen and Doug. They have been friends for 30 years. They're inexplicably and deeply connected to one another. In Rajiv Joseph's dark comedy, their propensity for injuries has Kayleen and Doug meeting regularly, from the nurse's office at school to the emergency room many years later. As they tend to each other's physical ailments, the emotional impact of their meetings becomes evident.

"Rajiv Joseph has an astonishing ability to write about damaged people in a constant state of turmoil succinctly and directly," said Ferrell. "This makes his characters approachable and familiar. His handling of fragile people and their delicate relationships in rocky situations makes Gruesome Playground Injuries a perfect fit for Second Thought Theatre and an exciting first production for me with the organization."

Ferrell explained that the story is straightforward and, as a result, doesn't require a poetic design. Instead, scenic designer Bob Lavallee will make his STT debut with a simple set comprised of four seating platforms and a playing space. "Their world isn't soft-edged," said Ferrell, "so the set will be hard and institutional-feeling."

Jennifer Ables (STT's Thom Pain (based on nothing)) will design costumes that the actors will access and change into in plain view of the audience - and each other. Lighting design by Alyssa Humphries and Travis Watson will enhance the hard and institutional aspects of the story. John Flores will return for the second time this season for sound design.

"Kayleen and Doug exist independently from one another, but they always seem to be connected. Joseph's dialogue demonstrates that very well and all aspects of our planned design will support the dysfunction and beauty of the relationship between these two people," said Ferrell.

Gruesome Playground Injuries opens with previews on Thursday, June 6 at 7:30pm. Opening and press night isSaturday, June 8 at 8:00pm. Dallas Theater Center Welcomes Liz Mikel and Cedric Neal for Centerstage 2013 Gala Tonight

Dallas Theater Center announced today that Brierley Resident Acting Company member Liz Mikel and former Company member Cedric Neal will headline Centerstage 2013 tonight, May 11. Co-chaired by Rusty Duvall and Deborah McMurray, with honorary chairs Diane and Hal Brierley, Centerstage 2013 will take place at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, which will be transformed for the evening.

CenterStage 2013 supports DTC's innovative artistic programming - from classics like King Lear to new musicals such as Giant - as well as its inspiring, life-changing education programs.

"Centerstage plays a key role in making it possible for DTC to continue creating high-quality productions and also deepening its impact in the community," said co-chair Rusty Duvall. "We're so excited to spend an evening celebrating our past successes and at the same time ensuring DTC's future."

The theme for the Centerstage 2013 gala is "Reflection" as DTC reflects on three ground-breaking years in the Wyly Theatre, as well as celebrates the success of two prominent actors from DTC - Brierley Resident Acting Company member Liz Mikel and Brierley Resident Acting Company alum Cedric Neal. Both Mikel and Neal have recently made their Broadway debuts in critically acclaimed productions. Liz Mikel appeared as Hetaira in the original Broadway production of Lysistrata Jones, formerly titled Give It Up!, a role that she originated at Dallas Theater Center in 2010. Since then, she has appeared on stage at DTC as the Narrator in the hit summer musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Cedric Neal took the stage in The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, which won the 2012 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival. It was just announced that Neal is a Helen Hayes nominee for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Musical for his role in Dreamgirls at Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia.

"Few regional theaters in the U.S. have company members who have successfully extended their careers in Broadway hits," said co-chair Deborah McMurray. "Both Cedric and Liz are loved in North Texas, but they are also celebrated and applauded by critics in New York and around the nation. They are returning to Dallas and creating a one-night-only show especially for our Reflection Gala."

The evening will begin at 6:30pm with a cocktail hour followed by three courses of culinary art by The Food Company, a special performance by Mikel and Neal and an after-party of live music and dancing with The Project.

Individual tickets for Centerstage 2013 are $1,000 and underwriting levels start at $2,500.

FOREVER PLAID to Highlight 2013 Casa Manana Gala, 5/31

The off-Broadway hit is back in town for a limited engagement at Casa Mañana as part of the 2013 Casa Mañana Gala. Tickets are on sale now.

Four heavenly voices unite for a concert they were never able to give in this off-Broadway musical revue that's been pleasing audiences around the world for over 20 years. This deliciously goofy revue centers around four male singers on the way to their first big concert when an accident occurs and their plans are halted. Singing in the closest of harmony, their charming, outlandish choreography with over-zealous precision will have the audience rolling in the aisles when they're not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the 1950s.

Casa Mañana's production of Forever Plaid stars four veterans of the Plaid family: Chris Crouch as Frankie; J.D. Daw as Jinx; Joe Domencic as Smudge; and Marcus Stevens as Sparky.

Casa Mañana's production of Forever Plaid is directed and choreographed by Guy Stroman. Mr. Stroman last directed the Casa Mañana productions ofAlways...Patsy Cline (starring Sally Struthers and Julie Johnson) and Steel Magnolias (starring Sandy Duncan) among several other Casa productions. Mr. Stroman is a native North Texan and a graduate of Texas Christian University. Mr. Stroman is also one of the original creators of Forever Plaid and starred in the original cast 20 years ago. Steven Freeman will serve as musical director.

Forever Plaid is presented as the 2013 Casa Mañana Gala to benefit the children's education and outreach programs at Casa. The Gala performance is Friday, May 31st.

A limited number of Gala performance tickets are made available to the public for $75. Stage West Presents STONES IN HIS POCKETS, Beginning 5/16

2 actors, 15 characters, unlimited entertainment. That's the short version of Irish playwright Marie Jones's Stones in His Pockets, beginning a 6-week run at Stage West on May 16.

Hollywood has long made great use of the charm and the scenery of Ireland, in films ranging from The Quiet Man to Far and Away to Waking Ned Devine. Now the movie world has descended on a village in beautiful County Kerry, to shoot a period piece called The Quiet Valley, and several of the locals are working as extras, and dreaming big. On hand from the film company are the lovely (and dialect-challenged) star Caroline, the British director Clem, the dismissive 1st AD Simon, and the ambitious 3rd AD Aisling, along with various crew members. And all these characters are played by just two actors. It may sound like an Irish version of Greater Tuna, but director Jerry Russell says "It's Tuna with more meat on its bones."

We see the filming unfold largely through the eyes of extras Charlie and Jake, and their experiences illustrate on a very personal level the collision of real life with reel life. The author takes some shots at Hollywood (in one scene, the cattle won't do because "they're not Irish enough."), and shows us how easily disillusionment can follow fascination. It's a touching and hilarious tour de force which delighted Stage West audiences when the group first presented a short run of the piece in 2007, and will certainly do so again.

Of its production in London, The Times said "The play is about rural poverty, cultural exploitation, the widening gap between winners and losers in the western world, and the damage wreaked by dreams and the dream industries... If there is a more cleverly constructed, enterprisingly acted play on offer in London right now, I cannot think of it." And the Daily Mail added, "an unalloyed source of joy, laughter, tears and delight."

Marie Jones was born in Belfast, where some of her earliest memories were of the weekly visits she made with her mother to her aunt's, listening to them reminisce, and learning early on the power of storytelling. "They would laugh, they would cry. And although they were the same stories, they were told differently every time. I couldn't get enough of them. If anything turned me into a playwright, it was those visits to my aunt." ("Bard of Belfast," Lyn Gardner, The Guardian)

Beginning her career as an actress, she later became writer-in-residence for Belfast's Charabanc Theatre Company, and was there from 1983 to 1990. She has also written plays for Replay Productions, and for DubbelJoint Theatre Company, including Stones in His Pockets. She has written for television and radio, and is the recipient of the John Hewitt Award for Contribution to Cultural Traditions. Stones in His Pockets received the 1999 Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Production, the Olivier Award for Best Play and the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy, and received two Tony nominations. Ms. Jones's most recent plays are Rock Doves (2010), Dancing Shoes: The George Best Story (2010), and Fly Me to the Moon (2012). She lives in Belfast with her second husband, Ian McElhinney, and two sons.

Jerry Russell is again directing the production. Jakie Cabe, most recently seen as Michael in the Amphibian production of Fiction, returns as Jake Quinn and several others. Patrick Bynane, last seen at Stage West as Dr. Prentice in What the Butler Saw, will play Charlie Conlon et al.

The set will be designed by Jim Covault, with lighting by Michael O'Brien. Costume design will be be handled by Covault and Peggy Kruger-O'Brien.

Stones in His Pockets will preview Thursday, May 16 at 7:30 and Friday, May 17 at 8:00, and will run through Sunday, June 23. Performance times will be Thursday evenings at 7:30, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00, with Sunday matinees at 3:00. The opening night reception will be Saturday, May 18. This production is not a part of Stage West's 2012-13 season, so ticket prices will differ. All tickets are $30, with discounts for preview performances ($20,first two performances ONLY), students and seniors ($22). No other discounts will apply. Food service is available 90 minutes prior to performances (reservations are necessary), and the Friday Prix Fixe special (dinner and show for $37) will be available beginning May 23.
