THE LAST FIVE YEARS Runs 6/20-30 at 11th Hour Theatre Company

11th Hour Theatre Company closes its season with the intimate chamber musical The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brownon June 20-30 at University of the Arts' Caplan Studio Theatre (211 South Broad Street, 16th Floor). Directed by Megan Nicole O'Brien, the two-person cast stars Michael Philip O'Brien as Jaime and Cara Noel Antosca as Kathy.

With a single preview on Thursday, June 20, opening night is on Friday, June 21. Performances run Friday through Sunday untilJune 30 with a single Monday "industry night" on June 24. General admission tickets at $28 are available by visiting http://www.11thhourtheatrecompany.org.

The Last Five Years chronicles the heartbreaking and hopeful life of a marriage, from falling in love to falling apart... or from falling apart to falling in love, depending on how you look at it. This beautiful, contemporary musical is an intensely personal look at love, ambition and challenges of marriage.

"The structure of the musical, the same story told from his/her perspective and juxtaposing timelines, is inventive and the music, with his/her motives interspersed throughout the score, is richly brilliant, making this one of our favorite musicals," said Megan O'Brien who is directing the production.

Megan Nicole O'Brien (Director) is the Associate Artistic Director and Co-founder of 11th Hour Theatre Company. As its Resident Director, she has directed nine productions, three of which have receivEd Barrymore Award nominations (The Great American Trail Park Musical, Avenue X, and The Bomb-itty of Errors). She has also directed productions at Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Walnut Street Theatre, Act II Playhouse and University of the Arts, where she is an alum.

Michael Philip O'Brien (Jaime) is Artistic Director of 11th Hour Theatre Company where he has appeared in Ordinary Days,Rent, Avenue X (earning a Barrymore Award for Outstanding Leading Actor in a Musical) and Tick, Tick...BOOM! (earning a Barrymore Award nomination). He has also starred at Walnut Street Theatre, recently in Plaid Tidings as well as in Grand Night for Singing, which garnered his third Barrymore Award nomination, and Les Miserables. His New York credits include productions at The York Theatre and Greenwich Street Theatre.

Cara Noel Antosca (Kathy) last appeared at 11th Hour Theatre Company in The Wild Party. Her other credits include A Moment in Time at Playwrights Horizons, Making God at Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival, and Bar Code...The Musical at 45th Street Theatre as well as several productions at Gateway Playhouse and Lakes Region Theatre.

WICKED to Return to Philadelphia's Academy of Music, June 26-Aug. 4

After breaking box office records and selling out in record time in 2010, WICKED, Broadway's biggest blockbuster, will return to the Academy of Music beginning June 26 - August 4 as part of the Broadway Season, presented by The KimMel Center for the Performing Arts.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Academy Award-winner for Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt) and book by Winnie Holzman ("My So Called Life," "Once And Again" and "thirtysomething"), WICKED, the untold story of the witches of Oz, is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Love! Valour! Compassion!, The Vagina Monologues) and features musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento (Aida, The Who's Tommy, How To Succeed...).

Based on the best-selling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, WICKED, winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, is the untold story of the witches of Oz. It is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.

Walnut Street Theatre concludes its landmark 204th season with an all-new production of Broadway and Hollywood's smash-hit, GREASE. Directed by Bruce Lumpkin, with choreography by Michelle Gaudette, this musical extravaganza is currently in previews and opens on May 22nd, running through July 14th on the WST Mainstage. GREASE is taking over Philadelphia this summer! Get out your leather jackets, pull on your bobby socks and take a trip to a simpler time with the original high school musical. Danny is the hunky 'bad boy' and Sandy is 'the girl next door.' They meet and fall in love. But will their different worlds keep them apart? Hear all of the unforgettable songs from the Broadway show and hit movie, including "You're The One That I Want," "Grease Is The Word," "Summer Nights," "Hopelessly Devoted To You," and "Greased Lightnin'." Get ready to hand-jive the night away with the show that'll make you want to stand up and shout, "A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop A-wop-bam-boom!"

Written by Jim Jacobs & War Ren Casey, the original Broadway production opened at the Eden Theatre on February 14, 1972 and received seven Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. It held the title of longest running Broadway show to date when it closed in April, 1980. Two revivals followed in 1994 and 2007, both receiving Tony Award nominations for Best Revival of a Musical. In 1974, the show had its London premiere with Richard Gere as Danny. Revivals followed in 1993 (with Debbie Gibson as Sandy), and in 2007. GREASE became a popular musical film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in 1978. The film won the People's Choice Awards for Favorite Musical Motion Picture and Favorite Overall Motion Picture. The Walnut's production of GREASE is produced in association with Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach, Florida.

Directing GREASE is Walnut veteran Bruce Lumpkin. With its widespread popularity, many people have a fondness for GREASE and Lumpkin is no exception, remarking, "I certainly feel a special connection to the musical. Early in my career, the first job I landed after moving to New York City was on a tour of GREASE, and I am thrilled to be returning to this show with a fresh approach." Lumpkin has directed numerous Mainstage and Studio 3 productions, including the highly acclaimed productions of Miss Saigon and Fiddler on the Roof. Additional Walnut Mainstage productions include Man of La Mancha, West Side Story, Evita, Grand Hotel, State Fair, and Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel.

Joining Lumpkin is his partner, both in theatre and real life, Choreographer Michelle Gaudette. Gaudette has previously choreographed at the Walnut for productions including Miss Saigon, Fiddler on the Roof, State Fair, Man of La Mancha, Carousel and Evita Joining the pair is Music and Vocal Director Douglass G. Lutz. Walnut audiences have enjoyed his work many times in scores of productions including The Music Man, Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I, Miss Saigon, Fiddler on the Roof and Oliver!.

New to the Walnut, Set Designer Cliff Simon's credits include the original Off-Broadway production of Fame. Joining him will be Broadway's Lighting Designer Richard Winkler (Jack: A Night on the Town with John Barrymore, Ian McKellen: A Knight Out at the Lyceum, Mayor), Costume Designer Lisa Zinni (Associate Designer for Broadways' Rent, Hair and A Christmas Story the Musical) and Sound Designer Craig Beyrooti, whose regional credits include Buddy, The Music Man and The Producers.

Rydell High's class of '59 is led by Matthew Ragas as Danny and Laura Giknis as Sandy, both making their Walnut debuts. The kids ruling the school include Michael Warrell (Kenickie), Richard Cerato (Doody), Matthew Rossoff (Sonny), Adolpho Blaire (Roger) and Lilly Tobin (Frenchy), also making their Walnut debuts. Rounding out the Pink Ladies, Kate Fahrner (An Ideal Husband, Miss Saigon, Born Yesterday) returns to the Walnut as Betty Rizzo, Rachel Camp (Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story) as Marty and Tara Tagliaferro (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day) as Jan.

The Captain of the Philadelphia Eagles 2012 Cheerleaders, Tracey Dunn, will play Rydell cheerleader Patty Simcox in her Walnut debut. Eric Kunze (Miss Saigon) returns to the Walnut as Vince Fontaine and Teen Angel, Nate Golden (Alexander...) as Eugene and Mary Martello (The Music Man) as Miss. Lynch. Brad Greer and Elizabeth Racanelli make their Walnut debuts as Johnny Casino and Cha-Cha Digregorio, respectively. The ensemble includes Hallie Cercone, Owen Pelesh, Kerri Rose and Matthew Steffens.

Starting June 7th - 9th Steven Spielberg's maritime thriller storms back on to Middletown's big screen. Police chief Martin Brody's (Roy Scheider) summer anxieties intensify when a hungry Great White shark chooses the cozy island town of Amity as its new feeding ground. June 14th - 17th Raiders of the Lost Ark, a 1981 American fantasy-adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by George Lucas, and starring Harrison Ford. It is the first (chronologically, the second) installment in the Indiana Jones franchise. It pits Indiana Jones (Ford) against a group of Nazis who are searching for the Ark of the Covenant which Adolf Hitler believes will make their army invincible. The film co-stars Karen Allen as Indiana's former lover, Marion Ravenwood; Paul Freeman as Indiana's nemesis, French archaeologist René Belloq; John Rhys-Davies as Indiana's sidekick, Sallah;Ronald Lacey as Gestapo agent Arnold Toht; and Denholm Elliott as Indiana's colleague, Marcus Brody.

June 21st - 23rd E.T. Steven Spielberg's 1982 tour-de-force explores the friendship between a lonely 10 year-old boy, Elliott (Henry Thomas), and a lost alien. Featuring supporting work from genre favorite Dee Wallace, young Drew Barrymore, and Peter Coyote. Spielberg's most personal film was a box office smash when first released, and continues to enchant audiences of all generations. It also remains Spielberg's favorite of his own movies.

June 28th - 30th SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (Sponsored by Middletown VFW Post 1620) SAVE THE ELKS is honored to present with the Middletown VFW the war epic that garnered Steven Spielberg his second Academy Award for Best Director. The film stars Tom Hanks, Edward Burns, Matt Damon, and Tom Sizemore, but also has a riveting score by John Williams. 'Saving Private Ryan' will be the fourth and final installment of a month-long Steve Spielberg Blockbuster Film Festival. The other films are TBA. Presented on glorious 35mm.

As part of the June 28th - 30th weekend the Elks Theatre will honor Military Veterans and current members of the U.S. Military. On Saturday and Sunday June 29th & 30th The Elks Theatre will be screening Saving Private Ryan and will also have a collection of WWII memorabilia on display. Grace Capeless to Star in Bucks County Playhouse's REALLY ROSIE; Full Cast Announced!

Bucks County Playhouse (BCP) has announced the complete casting for their upcoming family production of Really Rosie as part of the 2013 Playhouse Productions Summer Season. Performances begin July 5th and run through July 21st at the Bucks County Playhouse (70 South Main Street, New Hope, PA).

Based on a series of books by famed children's author Maurice Sendak and with music by the legendary Carole King, Really Rosie is the perfect show for the entire family.

Located 90 minutes from New York City, the Bucks County Playhouse opened in 1939 on the site of a grist mill dating from the late eighteenth century. Ironically, the structure was at that time in danger of demolition; however playwright Moss Hart and the local community rallied to save the building and re-opened it as a theatrical venue, which quickly became one of the country's most famous regional theaters, with a veritable who's who of American theatrical royalty including Kim Hunter, Helen Hayes, Kitty Carlisle, Colleen Dewhurst, Shirley Booth, Lillian Gish, June Lockhart, Grace Kelly, Robert Redford, Bert Lahr, Leslie Nielsen and Walter Matthau and remained in continuous operation until December 2010.

BWW Interviews: JD Triolo of Bucks County Playhouse's MAME

MAME, starring Andrea McArdle as Mame and Lea DeLaria as Vera Charles, will begin May 23, 2013 at Bucks County Playhouse. We had a chance to sit down with JD Triolo who plays young Patrick in the show.

Triolo was last seen in the Walnut Street Theatre's production of THE MUSIC MAN, and also has performed in shows at the Media Theatre. We had a chance to speak with Triolo between shows about how he got involved in theatre and how he is enjoying being in MAME.

Kelli Curtin: How did you become interested in acting?

JD Triolo: When I was 7 years old I saw MARY POPPINS, and I knew I wanted to be play Michael Banks. I then began taking acting classes at the Media Theatre, and Jesse Cline has been a great mentor.

Kelli Curtin: What do you enjoy most about being onstage?

JD Triolo: I love when I hear audiences clapping; it gives me the feeling I made someone's day. That makes me happy.

Kelli Curtin: When you are not acting what do you enjoy doing?

JD Triolo: I enjoy swimming, when I have time off between plays I am usually swimming. I also like watching movies, "Breaking Dawn Part 2" and "Hunger Games" are two of my favorites.

Kelli Curtin: Do you have a favorite part in MAME?

JD Triolo: I enjoy the first song I sing, "St. Bridget" with Jennifer Bissell. I also like the song, "My Best Girl" that I get to sing with Andrea. I really love the whole show.

Kelli Curtin: When did you start acting?

JD Triolo: I did my first show when I was 8. I played the role of Jaq in CINDERELLA. I really love that show. I also got to play Mowgli in THE JUNGLE BOOK at the Media Theatre. I really liked playing that role.

Kelli Curtin: What was the most challenging thing to learn in rehearsal?

JD Triolo: Probably the song "St. Bridget." I had difficulty learning the harmony.

Kelli Curtin: Are there any roles you would love to play someday?

JD Triolo: I would love to play Pugsley from THE ADDAMS FAMILY, Harold Hill in THE MUSIC MAN, Ralphie from the A CHRISTMAS STORY, the Brother of Elf in ELF, and Michael Banks in MARY POPPINS.

Kelli Curtin: You recently did a short film, "Detention." Was it more difficult to perform in front of a camera than onstage?

JD Triolo: It is more difficult to perform live on stage. In a film if you mess up you can redo it. Film takes longer, "Detention" is about 6 minutes long and it took 3 days to film. I really like performing on film and on stage.

Kelli Curtin: What is it like for you to work with Andrea McArdle?

JD Triolo: It is a really great experience. She has become a mentor to me, when I ask for help she always helps me. She is such a great actor to learn from and this has been a great experience. I also love working with the whole cast, everyone is really kind and sweet.

Drexel Students Produce and Perform Two-Man Musical Comedy GUTENBERG!, 5/30-6/1

The two-man musical spoof Gutenberg! The Musical! will take center stage in the new Black Box Theater in Drexel University's URBN Center Annex (3401 Filbert St.) from Thursday, May 30 - Saturday, June 1 at 8 p.m.

Demonstrating the culmination of their undergraduate studies, Drexel students Dan Toll and Justin Romeo, seniors in the entertainment and arts management program in Drexel's Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, are producing the show as their capstone project. This production marks the first time a musical and a fully student-produced show have been performed in Drexel's brand new Black Box Theater.

Toll and Romeo are also serving as the play's director and production manager, respectively. The two have performed all the various roles required of a theater company over the past 14 months in order to get the production off the ground.

The production stars Chris Feindler, a student in the music industry program, as Bud Davenport, and Vince Giannone, a student in the electrical engineering program in the College of Engineering, as Doug Simon. Chrissy Piccirillo, a student in the entertainment and arts management program, serves as the show's musical director and will play piano on stage during the performance.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for general audiences, and will be available at the door or by emailing dugutenberg@gmail.com.

Called "hilarious and immensely satisfying...a delicious comic success" by the Village Voice, Gutenberg! The Musical! centers around Doug Simon and Bud Davenport, authors of a big, splashy new musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. In need of support, they perform a backers' audition for some of the biggest producers in New York. They have no actors, no sets and no costumes, but Bud and Doug can sing, dance and, most importantly, they have hats!

Written by Scott Brown and Anthony King, Gutenberg! The Musical! was the first Off-Broadway transfer for the acclaimed Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. After the developmental run at UCBT, the show made its world premiere to critical acclaim at the Jermyn Street Theatre in London in January 2006. In September 2006, the U.S. premiere was presented as part of the third annual New York Musical Theatre Festival, where it received three awards, including Excellence in Musical Theatre Writing (Book) for Scott Brown and Anthony King. The Off-Broadway production closed in May 2007.

Lantern Theater Company Announces 20th Anniversary Season

In the midst of another record-breaking year of sold out performances and extended runs, Lantern Theater Companyannounces the productions that will comprise its 20th anniversary season in 2013/14. The season will begin with the Philadelphia premiere of Jane Austen's Emma in an adaptation by Michael Bloom, directed by Lantern Associate Artistic Director Kathryn MacMillan. During the holidays, the Lantern will present a world premiere adaptation of Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas in Wales, a co-creation by Lantern Artistic Director Charles McMahon and Philadelphia creator/performer Sebastienne Mundheim. In the spring, Lantern Artistic Director Charles McMahon directs William Shakespeare's epic tragedy Julius Caesar. The season will close with the Philadelphia premiere of South African playwright Athol Fugard's newest play, The Train Driver.

"As we approach this major milestone, it seems natural to take a moment to reflect on what has passed before plunging ahead with renewed excitement," said Artistic Director and Co-Founder Charles McMahon, reflecting on the Lantern's 20th anniversary season.
