Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre Presents The Wright Brothers Race Day Concert, 5/26

Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre is proud to announce the return of Indiana's own Wright Brothers band for the annual Race Day Concert! Seen in the movie "Overboard" with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, the Wright Brothers are celebrating 39 years of quality musical entertainment.

A family band, The Wright Brothers' smooth sound includes Tom Wright on vocals and guitar; Tim Wright on vocals, guitar, steel guitar, banjo and harmonica; John McDowell on vocals and bass, Frank Bradford on vocals, keyboard and guitar, and Bryan Chrisman on drums. Tim's daughters, Emily and Lauren, also perform. Dinner precedes the concert.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with Chef Odell Ward's specially prepared buffet served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited. Tickets range from just $28.50 to $39.50, and include the dinner buffet and the concert. Parking is always free. For tickets, call the box office at 317.872.9664. South Bend Civic Theatre Announces Summer Camps

Youth from kindergarten to high school will have opportunities to explore the magic of making theatre. Taught by experienced and enthusiastic instructors, these camps will give kids the skills in acting, musical theatre, improv, and more fun subjects. Choose from week-long day camps or two week performance camps with a chance to put on a full show at the end!

Many studies have shown the importance of arts education in shaping skills needed for successful child development. At South Bend Civic Theatre, we are committed to giving community children top flight theatre classes designed to teach skills and having fun while learning.

Classes begin the week of June 10, 2012. All camps K-3 will be held at the 1st United Methodist Church located at 333 N. Main St. Enter the side door off of Madison and go down to the basement. All camps 7-12 will be held in South Bend Civic Theatre's Warner Studio Theatre, 403 N. Main Street, South Bend.

Wild Things (in the PM)

It's a Jungle Out There! King Leo is a victim of the corporate jungle! He has money, power, and fame, but he still has not found happiness. His trusty servants, Spot and Stripes begin a quest for the key to happiness. Do the monkeys have or the hyenas? Perhaps the secret lies with the elephants. On the last day of camp parents get to come to the jungle and figure out who has the answer in this mini musical!

How to be a Pirate (in the AM)

Well Shiver Me Timbers - always wanted to sail the 7 seas? Have a parrot on your shoulder and a patch on your eye? Looking for a BIG adventure? If the answer is yes then listen up buckaroo - you need to get on board the pirate ship and help us find the buried treasure! On the last day of camp your will welcome your parents aboard the Black Pearl to join in the adventure!

Bebop with Aesop (in the PM)

Sing along as we act out the stories of An Aesop Adventure, Kindness Is Contagious (Lion and Mouse), The Lazy Bug Blues (Ant and Grasshopper), Nobody Believes a Liar (Boy Who Cried Wolf), Try and Try Again (Crow and Pitcher), One Step at a Time (Tortoise and Hare), and Simple Pleasures (Town and Country Mice). You get to share your musical adventure with mom and dad on the last day of camp!

Seuss O Rama (in the AM)

Oh the thinks we will think this week on the fantastical, magical, extravaganza of our Seuss adventure! Would we could we in a boat? Would we could we on a float? Join in the fun as we build our very own party hat and Go Dog Go! We will sing and dance our way through the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss! And on the last day of camp your family gets to come to the land of Seuss and experience your thinks! Puppet Pizzazz (in the PM)

From sock puppets to Sesame Street each child will build 3 to 5 puppets of their very own! We will create our very own puppet world, write our very own puppet plays and perform them. Maybe even Pinocchio will show up! And on the last day your parents can join in the puppet making fun!!

JOURNEY of the NOBLE GNARBLE is a story of a little gnarble with a big dream, who tries to make it past doubting blyfish, sneaky subbalubbles, and hungry plinks on his way to the surface of the sea. This mini musical is bound to delight yours moms and dads on the last day of camp!

If you just can't get enough singing and dancing then this camp is for you. Celebrate musical theater with hits from Hairspray, The Music Man, The King and I, Wicked, Rent, Grease and a medley of George M. Cohan favorites. Actors will work on breathing and vocal techniques along with basic movements.

LOMBARD, THE MARK OF A DOG'S FOOT and More Set for 2013 Northeast Indiana Playwright Festival, 5/31-6/2

Lombard by Michael B. Druxman will star Jessica Butler as Carole Lombard. Directed by Phillip H. Colglazier, the show is part of the 2013 Northeast Indiana Playwright Festival, running May 31 through June 2, 2013.

As Carole Lombard awaits her flight home to L.A. and Clark Gable, she revisits her colorful past. Drawing liberally upon her legendary sailor's vocabulary, Lombard reminisces on ex-husband William Powell, as well as Russ Colombo, George Raft, Gary Cooper, Joseph P. Kennedy and her attempt to secure the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind. Despite being set on the eve of her death, Lombard is the warm, funny story of a woman who was a fighter, both in her career and personal life.

Lombard contains frequent strong adult language.

AEG Live has announced that the southern gothic, supernatural musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, written by Stephen King, with music by John Mellencamp and T Bone Burnett, has confirmed a tour of 20 American cities throughout the Midwest and Southeast beginning October 10 in Bloomington, IN, and ending November 6 in Grand Rapids, MI. This extraordinary collaboration, 13 years in the making, is a haunting tale of fraternal love, lust, jealousy and revenge, which will be performed by an ensemble cast of 15 actors and a four-piece live band. The album of the musical will be released on June 4 via Hear Music and the Concord Music Group. Complete tour dates are below.

The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County saga began when Mellencamp told King about a cabin on his land inIndiana where two brothers had gotten in a fight over a girl; one brother accidentally killing the other, only to die along with the girl in a car crash a short time later. King came up with an outline for a play in a matter of days. And then off and on, back and forth, they began to develop it into a full-length musical.

The superb blues 'n' roots music of Ghost Brothers reflects the wide range of styles and influences needed for a work that jumps back and forth across decades. Rather than use the songs to propel the play's narrative, as in a conventional musical, Mellencamp chose to make them a way to reveal the emotions and inner workings of the characters.

Set in the tiny town of Lake Belle Reve, Mississippi, the Ghost Brothers' story centers on two sets of brothers: the ghosts of Jack and Andy, dead in an apparent murder/suicide, and their nephews, the living Frank and Drake, who seem to be headed toward the same downward spiral as their uncles. Joe, younger brother of Jack and Andy, father of Frank and Drake, has decided it's time to reveal his own terrible secret at the site of the tragedy, before it's too late.

As the story emerged during the writing of the musical, it became clear to the collaborators that Ghost Brothers had taken them into unfamiliar territory - and they liked it that way. "John can make rock & roll records and I can write books for the rest of our lives," says King, "but that's the safe way to do it, and that's no way to live if you want to stay creative. We were willing to be educated, and at our age, that's an accomplishment."

Putting King's words and Mellencamp's songs on the stage is in the skilful hands of acclaimed director Susan Booth, who calls the musical a "a kind of new age travelling Medicine Show." "This is a gothic story-driven rock concert," says Booth. "I want the emphasis to be on this fantastic score and our great singers and how the story advances us from song to song. In most musicals, the songs advance the narrative. With Ghost Brothers, the story will advance the songs."

Stephen King, John Mellencamp and T Bone Burnett's GHOST BROTHERS OF DARKLAND COUNTY to Kick Off National Tour, Oct 2013

AEG Live has announced that the southern gothic, supernatural musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, written by Stephen King, with music by John Mellencamp and T Bone Burnett, has confirmed a tour of 20 American cities throughout the Midwest and Southeast beginning October 10 in Bloomington, IN, and ending November 6 in Grand Rapids, MI. This extraordinary collaboration, 13 years in the making, is a haunting tale of fraternal love, lust, jealousy and revenge, which will be performed by an ensemble cast of 15 actors and a four-piece live band. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony award for Best Play, this blistering portrait of a family in crisis has been hailed as the greatest American play of our time. When the patriarch of the Weston clan goes missing, the family gathers together at the homestead in Oklahoma, revealing years of pain, addiction, abuse, and infidelity. Ruthlessly profane and savagely funny, you will not want to miss this astounding and monumental work by the playwright of Superior Donuts.

Director Aaron Nichols (SBCT's The Violet Hour) leads a fantastic cast in this intimate epic: Lisa Blodgett, Paul Hanft, Julie Hoven, Scott Jackson, Stacie Jensen, Seyhan Kilic, Lucinda Moriarty, Mark Moriarty, Scot Shepley, Doug Streich, Leigh Taylor, Mary Toll, and Carl Wiesinger.

Premiering at the Steppenwolf Theatre in 2007, August: Osage County took the theatrical world by storm, garnering Tony awards on Broadway, Olivier awards in London, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama before a successful national and international tour.
