THE BIG BANG Returns to B Street This Summer

Original 2005 cast members Greg Alexander, Jason Kuykendall, and Chris Schlagel return in Graham and Feuer's cosmic romp. Reprising their roles as two wannabe producers, Greg and Jason pitch their new idea for a musical recounting the history of the world to prospective investors. Chris accompanies as they introduce us to Adam and Eve, Nefertiti Queen of Egypt, Julius Ceasar, the Virgin Mary, Christopher Columbus, Pocahontas, Napoleon, Jimi Hendrix and many others in this gloriously campy and outrageously funny show.

The Big Bang (originally entitled Free Food and Frontal Nudity) premiered at PSI Theatre in Durham, NC before opening Off-Broadway in 2000. Boyd Graham earned two Drama Desk Award nominations for his work on the show. B Street's 2005 production, also directed by Acting Company member John P. Lamb, ran for a staggering 108 performances. This summer's special engagement of the show is expected to sell out quickly, so patrons are encouraged to buy their tickets as soon as possible.

Recommended for mature audiences due to partial nudity.

California Musical Theatre Announces LES MISERABLES Master Class

Orchestra conductor Larry Goldberg and a cast member from Cameron Mackintosh's new 25th anniversary production of the legendary musical LES MISERABLES will participate in a unique collaboration with members of Sacramento Youth Symphony and Sacramento Children's Chorus. The musical theatre professionals are in Sacramento for the touring Broadway show's two-week engagement at Community Center Theater, beginning on May 29. The Master Class, conducted by the California Musical Theatre Academy, will take place from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, in the Music Department at Rosemont High School in Sacramento.

"We're very excited about the LES MISERABLES program," said Victoria Plata, California Musical Theatre's Director of Education. "We conduct Master Classes with most of our touring Broadway productions, but we've never before done something on this scale. Our typical programs focus on dance or music instruction for a limited number of participants. For this one, in addition to the Youth Symphony and Children's Chorus members, we've also invited Rosemont High School music students. We expect more than 75 children to participate in the Master Class, where they'll gain valuable insight and instruction from individuals at the top of their profession."

The class will start off with the musicians working with LES MISERABLES orchestra conductor Goldberg, and the singers working with a cast member and a pianist from the orchestra. Then both groups will come together to perform the song "Do You Hear The People Sing?" from the show.

The LES MISERABLES Master Class takes place from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, in the Music Department at Rosemont High School, 9594 Kiefer Blvd. in Sacramento. The class will be open to media, and is ideal for photo and video coverage. Participants will be available for interviews.

Peter Wolfe to Host Scene Design Camp at Imagination Theater

Join Elly Award Winning set designer and local architect, Peter Wolfe, for a summer art camp for those in 6th-10th grade. Get your creative juices flowing and learn how to paint for the stage (set production) as well as working on props and backdrops.

Singer/Songwriter and viral YouTube sensation Carrie Manolakos delivers a night of powerful music in the breathtaking Benziger Wine Cave that follows her unfolding journey from Broadway's Mamma Mia and Wicked to her current life as an independent artist. This groundbreaking concert, featuring songs from her debut album, Echo, promises to be historic.

Carrie has been selling out venues all over New York City, as well as other cities across the country and catching the attention of stars such as Alec Baldwin, Trey Anastasio, and Josh Groban.

Carrie Manolakos, started off 2013 singing with Phish at Madison Square Garden for their much anticipated New Years Eve Show- one of their wildest in history. Carrie already positioned in the top 100 of the iTunes pop charts with her debut album "Echo", became an internet sensation with her haunting performance of the Radiohead classic Creep, captured at her album release concert in April 2012 at (le) poisson rouge. The video is now well over a million views and still climbing by the thousands. She was selected for Elle Magazine's 30 Under 30: Essential Names to Know, voted #1 by readers.

Carrie was featured as the top story on Gawker, saying her rendition of the song is "upsettingly good" and it "Will make your Ears Orgasm." She most recently was featured in Entertainment Weekly for being one of the top 12 best Radiohead covers of all time, with artists such as Frank Ocean, John Mayer, Weezer, Regina Spektor, Vampire Weekend, and others. She was also featured in the New York Times, The New Yorker, Huffington Post, Daily Beast, MTV, and MSNnow.

Manolakos has a background in musical theater, with Broadway credits, including the lead role of Sophie in Mamma Mia as well as Elphaba on the Second National Tour of Wicked. Two-Time Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster comes to Wine Country with musical director Michael Rafter for a powerhouse night of enchanting entertainment in the breathtaking open-air winery ruins of Jack London Historic State Park.

Sutton Foster, best known on Broadway for her Tony Award-winning performances in Anything Goes andThoroughly Modern Millie, also originated leading roles in The Drowsey Chaperone, Little Women, Young Frankenstein and Shrek the Musical.

Currently, Foster is starring in ABC Family's new series "Bunheads," created by Amy Sherman Palladino.Foster was first seen on television on "Star Search" at age 15, and has more recently appeared in "Johnny and the Sprites," "Flight of the Conchords," "Sesame Street," "Law and Order SVU" and "Royal Pains."

As a solo artist, Foster has performed all over the country as well as internationally with her musical director Michael Rafter, featuring songs from her debut solo CD "Wish" as well as her follow up CD, "An Evening With Sutton Foster: Live at the Cafe Carlyle."

Michael Rafter (Musical Director) collaborated with Sutton Foster on her first solo CD, Wish, which was released in February 2009 and performed it live at the Lincoln Center American Songbook series. Their second CD Sutton Foster, Live at the Carlyle, was released in March 2011. He also co-produced Norm Lewis's solo CD, This is the Life, and the recording of Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori's Broadway show, Caroline, Or Change.

On Broadway, Michael has served as music director/conductor of Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Sound of Music, The King & I and Gypsy.

Michael also did the arrangements for the Broadway productions of Swing and Sweet Charity.

He was one of the two piano duos that played the Broadway revival of The Most Happy Fella. Off-Broadway credits include: Merrily We Roll Along and Violet.

BWW Reviews: A LITTLE PRINCESS Gets The Royal Treatment

Exceptionally crafted, Sacramento Theatre Company's world premiere of "A Little Princess" is full of imagination and excitement. A well-paced book by William J Brooke follows the story of young Sara Crewe's dealings with life's troubles. From "supposing" optimism to acceptance and pragmatism, the psychological drama of the adaptation reads down-to-earth and true, especially as Sara's journey contrasts with schoolmistress Miss Minchin's aversion to happy endings. And it's matched by exquisite music written by Eric Rockwell.

Aside from two or three fun songs that make no statement in the music world, Rockwell's score has a similar feel to the Broadway musical version of "The Secret Garden." No surprise there, since both stories share the same original author. Rockwell creates memorable songs for each character, building brilliant layers of tunes audiences can't help but walk away singing. The composer wonderfully weaves upbeat, entertaining music with incredibly moving soft pieces.

The musically dominated production features an amazing cast, with the younger roles double cast. Lauren Metzinger created an energetic and visionary Sara at Sunday's performance, while standouts Christine Muashiro and Emma Vance were Sara's enthusing friends Ermengarde and Becky. Sacramento favorite Jerry Lee made a soothing and ethereal Captain Crewe, Sara's father, while Josh Powell was an amiable Tom Carrisford, Crewe's friend and business partner, and Michael De Souza had many memorable comedic moments in the second act as Ram Dass, Tom's servant. De Souza also made a suitable narrator to the piece, playing a large part in the musical's stirring finale. Deborah Tranelli played the pitiable Miss Minchin, Martha Omiyo Kight played Minchin's good-natured sister, and Tyler Wipfli played Sara's lively French maid.

Director Michael Laun and Choreographer Michele Hillen-Noufer keep the action going with plenty of creative dance breaks and great use of a small stage. Their fantastic cast, along with Kelly Tighe's magical scenic designs and Jessica Minihan's bright costume designs, do a magnificent job with a beautiful new creation that has great potential, and, hopefully, a royal future.

HOW WE GOT ON Makes West Coast Premiere at B Street Theatre Tonight

The B Street Theatre presents the West Coast premiere of How We Got On by Idris Goodwin as part of both its Mainstage Season and B3 Series, tonight, May 12-June 23, 2013.

"I know both our Mainstage and B3 audiences will love this show. I wanted to bring this great night of theatre to everyone," said Producing Artistic Director Buck Busfield.

Goodwin's critically acclaimed new play features three suburban teens coming of age in the funky 1980's. They battle cultural isolation, familial dysfunction, and ruthless rivalries hoping to bank their futures on hip-hop music. A sultry MC seductively spins their stories with her own perspective on the music in this passionate, accessible new play.

How We Got On was developed at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Centerand premiered at the 2012 Humana Festival of New American Plays--the seminal launch pad for New Work in the United States. B Street's production will feature three cast members reprising their brilliant festival turns as well as the musical score composed for the show at the O'Neill Center. How We Got On is the second West Coast premiere of the 2012-13 B3 Series and the tenth West Coast premiere produced since the series' inception in 2007.

How We Got On is presented as part of B Street's Mainstage season and as the fourth show of its 2012-2013 B3 Series.

How We Got On will be directed by Buck Busfield with composer Elisheba Ithoop, Lighting Design by Ron Madonia and Stage Manager Anthony Poston. The cast features Terrell Donnell Sledge as Hank, Brian Quijada as Julian, Deonna Bouye as Luann, and PaSean Wilson as the Selector.

When Gaetano Proclo, a hapless, middle-aged, overweight, very married man takes it on the lam from his Mafioso brother-in-law, Carmine Vespucci, he ducks into "The Ritz", the last place anyone would look for him, not knowing what he has thrust himself into. What he encounters there sets the scene for an old-fashioned door-slamming farce, albeit with towel-clad chubby chasers, bumbling detectives, and Googie Gomez, an over-the-top would be Bette Midler looking for her big break...Funny!!!!!

Green VAlley Theatre Company is proud to present Willy Russell's "Blood Brothers", a musical set in Liverpool spanning the 1960's-1980's. Mrs. Johnstone, struggling to support her five children, learns she is pregnant with twins. Her wealthy employer, Mrs. Lyons is unable to have a child and begs to take one of the boys. Mrs. Lyons ensures no one will find out by telling Mrs. Johnstone that if two twins secretly parted ever learn the truth they will both die. The brothers grow up separately, yet become best friends and fall in love with the same girl. The narrator however steps in, like fate, and warns that "a price must be paid".

Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, LES MISERABLES is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the classic songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Stars," "Bring Him Home," "Do You Hear the People Sing?," "One Day More," "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables," "Master Of The House" and many more.

Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Boublil and Schönberg's LES MISERABLES has music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer from the original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, additional material by James Fenton and original adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird. The original LES MISERABLES orchestrations are by John Cameron with new orchestrations by Christopher Jahnke and additional orchestrations by Stephen Metcalfe and Stephen Brooker. The production is directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell, designed by Matt Kinley inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo with costumes by Andreane Neofitou and additional costumes by Christine Rowlands, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Mick Potter, musical staging by Michael Ashcroft and projections by Fifty-Nine Productions.

Les Misérables originally opened in London at the Barbican Theatre on October 8, 1985, transferred to the Palace Theatre on December 4, 1985 and moved to its current home at the Queen's Theatre on April 3, 2004 where it continues to play to packed houses. When LesMisérables celebrated its 21st London birthday on October 8, 2006, it became the World's Longest-Running Musical, surpassing the record previously held by Cats in London's West End.

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the legendary musical Les Misérables made theatrical history with an international first - three different productions in London at the same time. The Original Production (still playing to packed houses at the Queen's Theatre), the acclaimed New 25th Anniversary Production at the Barbican (where the show originally premiered) and a celebratory concert at The O2 Arena. The O2 Concert was presented in over 500 cinemasthroughout the United States on November 17, 2010 and is now available on Blu-ray DVD through Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

The Broadway production of LES MISERABLES originally opened at the Broadway Theatre on March 12, 1987 and transferred to the Imperial Theatre on October 17, 1990 running for 6,680 performances. The US National Tour began in November 1987 and visited over 150 cities before closing in St. Louis, MO in 2006. Broadway audiences welcomed Les Miz back to New York on November 9, 2006 where the show played the Broadhurst Theatre until its final performance on January 6, 2008. To date, LES MISERABLES remains the 3rd longest-running Broadway production of all time.

Seen by nearly 60 million people worldwide in 42 countries and in 21 languages, LES MISERABLESis undisputedly one of the world's most popular musicals ever written, with new productions continually opening around the globe, with seven more currently scheduled. There have been 36 cast recordings of Les Misérables, including the multi-platinum London cast recording, the Grammy Award-winning Broadway cast and complete symphonic albums and the soon to be released live recording of the New 25th Anniversary Production.
