SESAME STREET's Alan Muraoka to Direct Lyric's THE KING AND I, 6/9-13

Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma hasn't presented the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical THE KING AND I since 1983, but this summer the production will return with a vengeance, featuring a powerful cast and creative team, July 9-13 at the Civic Center Music Hall, as part of Lyric's 50th Anniversary Season. THE KING AND I will be directed by "Sesame Street" star Alan Muraoka, known as Al on the show.

"Lyric is proud to present THE KING AND I, one of Rodgers and Hammerstein's masterpieces that has delighted and emotionally resonated with audiences since its premiere in 1951," said Michael Baron, Lyric's artistic director. "In addition, I'm proud to welcome Director Alan Muraoka and Choreographer Greg Zane to bring this show to life once more. Also, we will be hosting a chorus of 21 Asian-American children from right here in Oklahoma City. The splendor and drama of the court of the King of Siam will glitter once more as Anna and the King come to understand and love one another."

Muraoka last joined Lyric to direct the hit musical XANADU in 2012, complete with a roller skating cast. His directing credits also include Off-Broadway and regional theatre, as well as television. As an actor, he joined the cast of "Sesame Street" in 1997 and has been a series regular ever since.

Heading the cast will be Heather Geery as Anna and Mel Sagrado Maghuyop as the King of Siam. The production holds a special place in Geery's heart, as she appeared in Lyric's 1983 production of THE KING AND I as one of the King of Siam's children. Her most recent regional credits include BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at West Virginia Public Theatre and A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Theatreworks USA. Maghuyop will travel to Oklahoma from New York City and this is not the actor's first time tackling the role, as he played the part at Walnut Street Theatre in November 2011. Maghuyop is also a volunteer police officer with the NYPD.

"Being a part of this show once again is so special and sentimental for me," said Geery. "Not only is it a celebration of Lyric's 50thAnniversary, but THE KING AND I was my first show as a child, so to go from playing a princess to portraying the role of Anna means this experience truly brings my life on the Lyric Stage full-circle. It is a wonderful and special moment for me!"

Featuring familiar songs like "Getting to Know You," the production will wow audiences with its majestic costumes and elaborate set pieces. Zane has choreographed the production multiple times, including the show's national tour, and teaches dance at American Ballet Theatre and Broadway Dance Center in New York City, among others.

Lyric Theatre to Kick Off 50th Summer Season with TARZAN, 6/25-29

This June, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma will return to the Civic Center Music Hall with a high-flying, powerful production of TARZAN, starring New York-based actor Nicholas Rodriguez as the title character. Running June 25-29, the show will mark the beginning of Lyric's four-show, 50^th Anniversary Summer Season and will feature an original set by Helen Hayes Award-winning scenic designer Adam Koch and Oklahoma City artist Erin Latham.

"Our production of TARZAN is going to be a truly stunning presentation and will be a wonderful homage to Lyric's 50^th Anniversary and how much the theatre has grown over the years," said Michael Baron, Lyric's artistic director and director of the show. "The combination of Phil Collins' music, the talented actors, the original set and acrobatics will be an unforgettable experience for patrons."

The TARZAN stage will be filled with national and local talent. One of the Rodriguez's most notable roles was Curly in Arena Stage's non-traditionally cast production of OKLAHOMA! Broadway actor Steve Blanchard, who most recently graced the Lyric Stage in last summer's CALL ME MADAM, will play Kerchak and Heather Botts will join the cast as Jane.

Two notable members of the technical staff of TARZAN are Daniel Stover and Erin Latham. Stover is currently director of AntiGravity Orlando, a well-known acrobatics performance group. The aerialist will train the TARZAN performers to create the high-flying effects the show requires. Local Oklahoma City award-winning artist Erin Latham is collaborating with scenic designer Adam Koch to design the set for TARZAN. Latham's mixed media printmaking will add to the look of Koch's innovative design.

Koch, a 2009 Helen Hayes Award nominee for Stage Design, was the mastermind behind Lyric's sets for BYE BYE BIRDIE, SWEET CHARITY and CALL ME MADAM in the summer of 2012. His work on the three shows was featured in an October 2012 article in Stage Directionsmagazine. Koch's work on the TARZAN and BIG RIVER sets this summer is much anticipated. Two of his most notable set designs are Signature Theatre's DREAMGIRLS and the critically acclaimed MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET on Broadway.

She is bright, well-educated, and has just returned from five years in Paris, where she has done a brilliant job as an executive in a U.S. government overseas office. She has come home to find out if she is still in love with the younger Larrabee son, David. The elder son, Linus, a cynical, good-humored tycoon who has taken control of the family fortune, detects Sabrina's feeling for his brother, and for his own amusement lays a trap to bring them together. It works: David falls in love with Sabrina and wants to marry her. At the same time, a rich young Frenchman who has known Sabrina in Paris turns up and asks her to marry him. Faced with this dilemma, Sabrina discovers it is really Linus she wants. After an amusing scene in which Sabrina's father, the chauffeur, makes a rather amazing revelation, Sabrina breaks down Linus' resistance and gets her man. An unusual number of fine character parts for actors: the beautiful mother of wit and perception; the father, whose one passion is attending funerals; the chauffeur who has been dabbling in the stock market and likes his job because it gives him time to read; the smart magazine editor who, as a house guest, is the interested observer.

PAUL McCARTNEY 'Out There' World Tour Adds Tulsa & Washington DC Dates

On May 29, Paul will return to the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK for his first show at the venue since marking its first anniversary in August 2009 with the only arena gig of his summer 2009 stadium tour. July 12 will see Paul once again in Washington DC--site of The Beatles' first ever U.S. concert in 1964 at the Washington Coliseum--for his first public performance since his monumental August 2009 show at FedExField.

As previously announced, the tour will also be making stops May 22 in Austin, TX at the Frank Erwin Center and July 9 in Boston, MA at Fenway Park.

Tickets to the newly announced shows will be on sale beginning Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. local time at bokcenter.com (Tulsa) and nationals.com/mccartney (Washington DC). American Express Cardmembers can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Tuesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. through Thursday, April 11 at 10 p.m. All times local.

Paul McCartney's "Out There" tour will feature brand new, never before seen production and, as ever, hours of material from the most beloved catalog in popular music, with Paul performing songs spanning his entire career--as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course The Beatles.

The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity. For approximately three hours, many of the greatest moments of the last 50 years of musical history--not to mention the soundtracks of entire lives--are magically brought to life as only Paul can do.
