Tom Hanks to Play Elvis Presley's Manager in Upcoming Baz Luhrmann Film

Tom Hanks is in talks to play Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis Presley's manager, in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming Elvis biopic, according to Variety.

The untitled film is set up at Warner Bros. with Luhrmann directing from a script he wrote with Craig Pearce.

Parker discovered Presley when he was just an unknown and quickly moved in as his lone representation. Parker was responsible for various milestones, including Presley's record deal with RCA and his successful acting career.

Tom Hanks made his Broadway debut in the 2013 production of "Lucky Guy" in which he was nominated for a Tony and Drama Desk award. He recently starred in in "HENRY IV" at Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles.

Hanks is best known for his film roles including Jim Lovell in "Apollo 13," Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee in "The Post," airline captain Chesley Sullenberger in "Sully," Captain Richard Phillips in "Captain Phillips," Walt Disney in "Saving Mr. Banks," and Mister Rogers in Sony's upcoming biopic "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood." Hanks can next be seen in the World War II drama "Greyhound" and as Woody in "Toy Story 4."
