Immersive theatrical experiences are cropping up as alternatives to a night of theatre where one is only an observer. I had noticed the positive review for this production and purchased tickets for next weekend. Has anyone seen/experienced it yet? With it being a 70's themed evening, is dressing the period appropriate as an audience member?
Go ahead. It might be fun. I went to Third Rail's Then She Fell, which was a fine if overpraised-on-BWW piece.
I kickstarted this new one but they cancelled the previews because of permits so I was unable to get what I paid fcr. Still, I'm looking forward to the postcards some characters I have never seen are supposed to send me. I guess.
Just returned from Paradise, and what a trippy adventure it was...
I love immersive theater. Let me start there. Grand Paradise is the latest installment into the genre and it doesn't disappoint.
Interesting, immersive theater seems to be fueled by dance. Third Rail has its roots in dance and never is it more apparent than at The Grand Paradise. From disco to 70s lounges, the hotel seems to be filled with gorgeous young women and men seducing each other through movement. What fun! The evening is sensual and erotic. I felt utterly seduced throughout most of the evening.
Friday night, nobody by cast members were costumed. In fact, that more than anything created the distinction between who were audience and who were performers. I thought often that it would have been cool if I had dressed in a Hawaiian shirt. If I went again, I would dress the period.
As for tickets... I too kickstarted The Grand Paradise, and I too had my performances canceled. There was almost no issue exchanging them. Both Third Rail and the box office were considerate and extremely helpful.

ARTc, I missed you by 24 hours. I went on Saturday evening and I did wear a Hawaiian shirt. It was fun feeling as if I were part of the atmosphere. Several cast members mentioned it to me and later in the evening, one audience member with whom I was in a small group shared that she wished she had done it, too. So to anyone thinking of going, I give the Hawaiian shirt a thumbs up.
I completely agree with what ARTc had to say about the whole experience: it was sexy, and seductive.
I saw the second show of this back in January and really enjoyed it. I found the show transporting, sexy, erotic, and a lot of fun. The cast in this show definitely take things to the next level from shows like Sleep No More or Then She Fell

For the two hours I was there I was transported to a time and place and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. My only thing I wish is that they had a bar like sleep no more where you could go and have a drink to discuss the show afterwards! Overall I'd love to go back and follow some more storylines (and meet that lifeguard again!).
I'm thinking of heading back to Paradise. I'm so pleased that this is finding an audience and has extended. For those who love immersive theater, try and catch this. Its a trip worth taking.

Someone in a Tree2 said: "Gee, so few folks on the boards have weighed in on this one. Any more recent attendees with thumbs up or down?
For context we're 2 gay guys who loved SLEEP NO MORE (been 3 times), and hated THEN SHE FELL. "
It's a larger venue and you have a lot more time to explore on your own, but the general aesthetic and "what you're watching" is closer to TSF than SNM. For sure see it to have an opinion on it, and there's relatively cheap tickets being offered before it "closes" - I assume it'll extend.
Unfortunately I haven't seen Sleep No More or Then She Fell so I can't compare, but I really enjoyed this show! The immersive theatre stuff was pretty cool, with larger, more audience-driven sections of the show, and others that are one-on-one with the performers. All of the performers are excellent, and the 70's tropical setting was really fun. I would recommend this.
Went to this the other night. Sexiest show I've ever attended. No dark immersive atmosphere, and more emphasis on the individual experience.. I wished it lasted longer, I was getting really into it,
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
I saw it last month. I haven't seen Then She Fell, but I have seen Sleep No More. It's a very different experience from SNM, though. Not only because it's so tonally different, but also because it's much more individualized. Most of the evening is spent in rooms with an actor, and maybe a couple other audience members. I went with my mom, and also coincidentally ran into a friend there, so at the end of the night I spoke with both of them, and found out that there was very little overlap between our three experiences. It's a small audience and small-ish venue, but somehow they manage to have quite a few possible tracks to go on.
The show is very philosophical and hypnotic, and as others have said, it's very sexy. There is a lot of dance/movement, but also more speaking than in SNM.
It's pretty special. It won't be for everyone, but it's a trippy, hypnotic, sexy 2 hours. Best advice: turn your brain off and let yourself get swept up in it. (And follow the rules laid out by the staff.)
I didn't like it. I absolutely loved Sleep No More and Then She Fell, but I thought Grand Paradise was super boring and sprawling. It just repeated itself over and over and felt totally unmoored from a real or powerful narrative, like with Alice in Wonderland. I was disappointed.
