But what about the cold water old Jordan threw on this thread? To him & Clyde it was meaningless. Could someone actually be helped by it? Be still my heart. Glad it was a help to you.
Jeez everybody. I'm can't say I'm a fan of Roxy's posts on this board either, but this level of snark is a little disproportionate, don't you think? It's true Sunday especially will be some nasty cold.
Most every theater professional I know has left these Boards due to the reason you mention.... and we had some actual great ones here. Tony Award winners whose names you would all recognize.
Discussing different points of view and exchanging insider news about Broadway without animosity would have kept them and we all would have benefitted but it just became too negative for them to continue on the site.
Mr. Roxy has seen more theater than all of us, is in an age bracket that does not care for rap music, has seen A Chorus Line, Gypsy, West Side Story, The Producers and My Fair Lady come and go so he is not sucked in by the hype of a new show.
All he did was warn theatergoers that NYC is going to be bitterly cold this weekend and he was met with evil for no reason.
Theater professionals are actually quite a kind lot and do not behave like this. Thanks for your positive post.
Many thanks Mr Costa. Unfortunately, your words are lost on a group of people here who will never change & will be perpetually nasty. As a whole, do not care for rap but did enjoy the Hamilton cd. This is the closet we will get to it but just wanted to set the record straight.
While I am in the upper age bracket, I did not see the original Gypsy or My Fair Lady Saw revivals of both. Many people I knew left the board due to these individuals so I know what you are talking about. They simply cannot play nice with others.
I quite agree that people in here can be vicious. They almost get a vicarious thrill in doing so. I have a great deal of respect for Mr Roxy, as he is one of the early pioneers of this board. His knowledge of plays and musicals is incredible. He has seen some fantastic shows thru the years. I've learned to deal with critics. I haven't forgotten how I was criticized for watching my favorite show 3 times in one weekend in 2012. (I wanted to do something unique and fun.) At times, my detractors have annoyed me to such an extent that I've put them on my ignore list. Just recently, a new person came on the board and was vehemently criticized. I sent him a private message. His response was that he had contacted the mods to cancel his BWW membership. While I don't know if he was a sensitive young person or someone more seasoned, he felt attacked to such an degree that he didn't want to deal with the BWW bulliles. "That's all I have to say about that."
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
It is amazing how many people do not pay attention to the weather. I know people who have not dressed approprietly for the weather and then say "what is up with this cold weather?" Lots of tourists do the same and don't pack for the weather. It's called a forcast and a lot of people don't check it. When I lived out west I always checked the weather 2 nights before flying back east.
I wish there was a like button bc I agree that some people make this board unpleasant. Sometimes I search for something and find older threads and they are full of interesting conversations. I don't see any of those names currently posting.
Stocking up on food today. Me and Mrs R will spend the weekend huddled together listening to show tunes, watching movies like Summertime and staying nice and warm together
We could be offered free tickets to the show or any show for that matter and we are not budging.
