Has anyone seen the new Shear Madness? I saw this show when I was a kid and remember loving it! Excited to revisit it as an adult. It's nice to see it finally came to NY! Would love to hear some reactions from anyone who has seen this new production! Thanks
A friend and I saw this tonight and we both laughed ourselves silly. It's very fast-paced, with lots of topical references, and the jokes fly fast and furious. Yes, it has its share of groaners, but you're quickly hit by something else. Great performances too. It has a twist that took me by surprise, and that added to the fun. The actors are all expert improvisers and ad libbers. I had never heard of this show before (apparently it's been playing in Boston since the '70s), and I didn't know what to expect. I love it when a show surprises me so favorably. If you're in the mood to laugh, check it out.
Saw the Friday night performance ...... if I had to sum it up: elevates low comedy to nearly high art. Filled with malapropisms , puns, and misc. word play ... the cast juggles the scripted and ad-libbed moments with amazing skill. Loved everyone in the cast, and second the special mention for Jordan Ahnquist. I'm already looking forward to a repeat visit!

This show has finally come to NYC after being a bit hit in Washington DC for years and years. Without giving too much away, this is an audience-participation type of murder mystery who-done-it. So pay VERY close attention to everything that happens in the first 30 minutes (who enters, who leaves, who touches what, etc). The twist that's mentioned in the last 30 seconds of the play makes you want to come back and see the show again. The show grows on you - after a while, you'll start to get the "bad humor" and really get into it. Don't wander too far during intermission as one character will be outside during intermission, and the others will remain on the stage during that time too. It runs just under 2 hours including the intermission. A fun night out with a very hard-working cast who can ad-lib at audiences' responses ingeniously!
Can anyone please elaborate on the audience participation in this show? I'd hate to buy a ticket and get called on... Any insight greatly appreciated! :)
No one gets called on. If you want to participate, you can. But you don't have to say a word if you don't want to. I don't want to be too specific because it would spoil the fun.
These comments are interesting to me. This show ran in Chicago for many years, and I saw it as a teen/young adult. I remember not being very impressed. My recollection of the script is that it is akin to those 80s Prom/My Great Big Wedding kind of shows--more like an ensemble comedy act than a play, and it did have very topical humor. But I have not seen the new script or production.
Literally thought the title of this thread said Shawn mendes.

I just saw the matinee today and really enjoyed the show. The ad liping was fantastic. I actually liked this more then any of the new plays I've seen on Broadway this season
I saw it back in '96 in Boston, and I loved it. I waited all these years to see it again, and I rushed to get a ticket when they went on sale.
Maybe it was because I had built it up in my mind over the years, but I was very disappointed in it. A lot of the characters had age changes from what they were all those years ago and not necessarily for the better.
The ad libs (with one exception) all seemed kind of forced and pre-planned. Let's face it. They help ensure that they get asked the same questions every night.
That being said if you've never seen the show, and don't have anything to compare it to, you should definitely go. You'll have a good time.
